New Years and Sundays in Merida?
 

My wife and I are thinking of spending about six days in Yucatan in the time leading up to and including New Years.

1. What is New Years Eve in Merida like? Any public fireworks? Is the city a lot of fun on New Years Eve? Is it also so noisy that we wouldn't get to sleep until the morning? Both? Neither?
2. What is New Years Day like there, aside from things probably getting started pretty slowly? Are the same streets closed as on Sundays, with the same kind of scene as on Sundays?
3. Similarly, I understand that some streets are closed to allow for strolling and all sorts of handicrafts stalls and other vendors on the streets on Sundays? Is that correct? And is it fun?
4. If we didn't arrive in Merida until Sunday evening (the flight not getting in until 6:20 pm), would that be so late as to miss the closed streets and stalls?

A arriving Sunday evening won't be of much use, I'm afraid; you'll misss most of what the family oriented Sunday is about.

I've not spent New Year in Mérida, but lots of Sundays.

I wasn't all that impressed by Merida. Hounded by touts, and highly priced clothing, wasn't expecting that
