Cabo Recommendations
 

I'm planning to travel to Cabo for a vacation with the in-laws. There will be a group of 4 of us + an infant, and I'm planning to go with a condo/house rental.

Anyone have any recommendations on the following?

- Cabo San Lucas v. San Jose areas?

- We will have a car, but would like to be able to walk to some local restaurants, stores, etc.

- Want something pretty low-key and not near loud night clubs or spring breakers.

Any recommendations or personal experiences are appreciated!

We just stayed at Cabo Villas Beach Resort. Rented through VRBO for a good price and the trip was amazing. The location can't be beat, it's right on Medano Beach and walkable (longer walk) to the marina. In the evenings we'd take a taxi into town, and during the day we'd walk down the beach into the marina. They've got multiple on-site restaurants with the Baja Brewing Company on their roof, and a great beach restaurant in the sand.

Lots of water taxis and activities right out on the beach in front. We had an awesome day where we had a water taxi give us a short tour out to the arch (with great knowledge of the environment and history), then he dropped us off on a deserted beach halfway between the marina and the arch. We bought food at the beach restaurant and brought it with us to the beach and had an amazing afternoon.

It can get a little louder at night with live bands playing at the Baja Brewing Company, but it's not going all night long. The rest of the resort is fairly quiet during the night and day. There were several families with infants in the pool during the day when we went in September (we left our 2 year old at home with grandparents).

We picked up some groceries/snacks/drinks with our driver on the way in from the airport, but ate all our meals out. There's a large costco-type store within walking distance that you can shop at using a 1-day membership you buy cheap.

I think Villa del Arco and Villa la Estancia (right next door) are also good choices. Estancia is a little quieter and nicer (more expensive), and Villa del Arco is a little more family (i.e. young kid) oriented. Both are further up the beach so not as walkable to the marina. All offer studio, 1, and 2 bedroom condos I think.

We didn't do it, but everyone we talked to said to go visit Todos los Santos, and that they all loved it. You might want to check it out as a day trip excursion.

Thanks very much for the suggestions. I'm looking at a couple of units at Villa la Estancia and it looks very nice. Although not as close to local shops and restaurants as I would like, it's still a short cab ride away.

Do you know if we could walk unobstructed on the beach down to the marina from Villa la Estancia? I know this would be a long walk.

Yes you could walk it. It's not as far as it seems, especially if you break it up with a stop or two along the way.

Stay in Cabo San Lucas and use VRBO.com to find the condo to rent.

With an infant you can stay anywhere along the corridor and not have to worry about partyers. The only place I would not stay is something in the center of Cabo San Lucas though we have never hesitate to walk around there at night but you do get the booming music from all the bars.

Villa Estancia is a great property, we always stay in Villa del Arcos which is the timeshare property adjacent. Very quiet and family oriented. You will not need a car here or to get into town.

If you do have a car then really any property along the corridor is fine - just consider you will have more driving to get to restaurants in town.

Read the reviews on tripadvisor - you can easily tell which hotels are party places and which are not. All inclusive is a bad sign as that usually gets the heavy drinkers.
