Taking Four Year Old to Cabo-Aside from PP, what docs?
Hello: We have our kids, son-in-law and granddaughter joining us for my wife's 50th in Cabo this December.
Hayley is four. They are getting her a passport. (that will be a cute pic. :) ) I was reading that a notarized letter is required to take child to Mexico with only parent. Nothing mentioned if both parents are on the trip. Can I assume passport is enough? No birth certificate needed etc..... They are traveling from another city and do not travel often. Just making sure we know exactly what is needed. Thank you! |
If both natural parents are accompanying the minor, there is no documentation required other than the passport for all six months or older (particularly if their family name is the same - otherwise, some proof of marriage would be useful to have in case of dealing with a petty bureaucrat, albeit there is a slim chance). If the minor is flying with one parent and the other is joining later, the Minor travelling alone or without both natural parents to Mexico thread is well worth reading.

Thanks JDiver. My daughter hyphenates her last name. As they are traveling separate , I may just tell them to bring Hayley's PP plus her birth cert and their marriage license. No reason to have any problems starting a vacation.

If both parents are not traveling with Hayley, be sure the one Hayley's traveling with has a notarized letter from the absent parent - even if it is as brief as the one(s) offered in the thread. The chances of hassles are not high, but why not avoid any and all possible?
Mexicans are used to different looking last names - in Mexico the person usually uses Firstname Paternallastname Maternallastname. It might look like "Enrique Peña Nieto" in Mexico, Peña being the paternal name, and Nieto being mom's "maiden name" in the US, where it often appears as "Enrique Peña-Nieto" on passports, etc.

Good advice. Both parents are coming. I think we are in good shape. I appreciate your links and help.
