Platinum benefit as a second guest

Hi All,

I have a question about receiving Platinum (or above) benefit as a second guest, after the SPG/Marriott integration.

So here are some hypothetical situations:

1) A non-member A books (on Marriott) a cash stay under A's name. Platinum member B stays with them. B was added as an additional guest. B also checks in with A.
- Can they receive a platinum benefit?
- Can B receive points and night credits?

2) A Rewards member A (lower than Platinum) books (on Marriott) a cash stay under A's name. Platinum member B stays with them. B was added as an additional guest. B also checks in with A.
- Can they receive a platinum benefit?
- Can B receive points and night credits?

3) A Rewards member A (lower than Platinum) books (on Marriott) a point stay under A's name. Platinum member B stays with them. B was added as an additional guest. B also checks in with A.
- Can they receive a platinum benefit?
- Can B receive night credits?

* For the case 3, I knew that benefit was definitely given beforehand(do not now about the night credit). How about after the integration?

I will appreciate your data point, as well as an official answer from the representative, like the Lurkers who were the jewels of SPG.

Officially, none of these scenarios would result in Platinum member B receiving points or benefits. However, YMMV.

Really? So let's say A and B are a married couple, and A is a gold member and B is a platinum member.
Member A books with his points, and B checks in with him.
B still doesn't get platinum benefit?

That's sad. Thanks though.

Since the unlimited point transfer between the household members is gone, this is a great devaluation for couples...

While you have my empathy, officially, Platinum member B is not going to get any points or benefits in any of these scenarios, even if it is a husband and wife, unless Platinum member B is the primary guest of record. For example, the reservations are made in Platinum member B's name, is staying under a qualifying rate, and he/she settles the account at check-out.

Of course, anyone can make an error and then there is always the gesture of good will factor that makes it a YMMV situation.

I've got a very similar situation coming up - my status is Titanium, spouse is Gold, but spouse has the points and isn't allowed to transfer any more this year.

I fully expect I wouldn't be able to earn points or night credits as the secondary guest, but what about breakfast or lounge access? Will hotels generally provide these benefits when the Platinum/Titanium guest is staying as a secondary guest and the reservation is in Spouse's name?

Scenario 1 and 2 just book in Guest B’s since there is no difference.

Scenario 3 is a YMMV but I can tell you that you cannot switch loyalty number to get credit since the reservation and certificate is tied to the original account holder.

Can’t the member who has the points just call customer service to make a reservation in Guest B’s name? Then Guest B would be the primary guest in the room & they could handle check-in & check-out using their own credit card. Wouldn’t Guest B then receive elite night credit for the stay & any points for incidental spend etc?

It might be a business trip for A.

Remember that to get points and/or night credit, you must stay and PAY.

Generally ... who knows since "officially" they don't have to. As a practical matter, I'd guess they would but not sure there is much you can do about it.

you can call to book together, withdraw points from your spouse.

agreed, this still works ... but few agents know how to do this properly. A HUCA situation in many cases.

You mean call the property itself and speak to a supervisor or manager?
