Unless the error appears to be some form of fraud or it is for a porn flick or somesuch, I would not bother. If you make minimum wage, it is a money loser to pursue and I hope that you make more than minimum wage. I know people who talk about the "principal of it" but most of them just have way too much time on their hands.

Everyone is complaining about not even worth the time starting a thread yet they waste theirs by replying to it
I would fire them an email and let them know. $4 may not mean much to the average person on FT but it could mean a meal for someone else. If this hotel is billing people in error, they need to correct it.

How many times has Marriott given you something for free, in error? Like the number of times I've filled out the paper form at the concierge lounge bar and it's never been applied to my bill. I bet most elites probably owe Marriott at least $4 if you want to count pennies.

I want to know whether it's a mistake in the room rate, or some sort of incidental charge myself. Depending on the property, I would likely just let it go figuring that there have been enough times in the past where I have gotten a break in my favor that I'm still coming ahead in a lifetime as a frequent traveler.

If it's important enough for you to complain in FT, is it important enough to complain to the property. Don't worry about what other people on FT think. You'll always find SOMEONE here to agree with you no matter what you post.

4 USD isn't worth the time and effort to fight. Moderate effort, minimal reward.

If the OP gets the 10 elite nights for all pre-Aug 18 meetings, then I’d think that easily was worth the $4 overcharge and just move on.
If the OP doesn’t get the 10 elite nights for all those pre-Aug 18 meetings, then I’d think it’s obvious that the $4 overcharge is absolutely unacceptable.
I’m still hoping for karma.

I would say it depends what the charge is for. I recently contested a $7.95 charge at a resort as it was a rental item that someone charged to my room. I'm definitely not okay with a hotel being lax as far as room charges. If it's just a weird tax calculation or a small unexpected change in the base rate then that's much more meh.

Recently, I was overcharged by $45.00 and nobody at the Front Desk could explain where the mystery $45.00 came from (it was marked misc on my bill), first I was told it was for the valet, except the Valet was $12.00 (for overnight guests) and I was not parking a car with the hotel, than I was told it was for room service, except I did not order any room service and I said please show me the receipt if indeed it is for Room Service and than finally I was told that they adjusted my room rate (ostensibly because I must not have qualified for the rate I booked) except I booked an AAA rate right off of Marriott.com and I am an AAA member and presented my card at check-in to which the Front Desk employee said that must not be it then.
As I needed to make a flight and the shuttle was leaving, and the Front Desk employee was unwilling to remove the charge, I said I will deal with it when I got home. The comedy of errors which ensued was almost hysterical, from speaking to someone from accounting who said she never saw the MISC designation before and saying that she would refund it, then only refunding $4.50 (clearly a typo) and then being told that the person I spoke with is now on vacation for two weeks and I will have to wait till she gets back to collect the remaining $40.50.
Finally I spoke with the General Manager who agreed that whatever the charge was for was clearly error as nobody including himself had any idea what it might be for and that he was going to process the refund for $40.50 himself and he was also going to give me 10,000 points for my trouble (which was nice and not really necessary nor expected). He ended up refunding me $45.00, not the $40.50 that I was owed (so I am now a net positive of $4.50) and the 10,000 points were never credited to my account.
I decided at this point that it was not worth anymore of my time to try and give back the $4.50 and seek the 10,000 points so I called it a day or so I thought. A few weeks later, I was reviewing my credit card account and I see a refund of $40.50 from the hotel in question which now means that I am now a net positive of $45.00 and the woman from accounting had come back from vacation, realized her mistake and just went ahead and refunded me the $40.50 without checking to see if any changes had occurred since she went on vacation.
I called back to the hotel and now had to explain that I need be charged $45.00 as they have effectively refunded twice for the MISC charge that I originally contested, after a bunch of back and forth, I get the General Manager who again apoloigizes for the entire mess, said to keep the $45.00 and without saying anything, he was going to credit me an additional 10,000 points for all my troubles. Oddly enough about a week later 20,000 points are credited to my account, so I am not sure why the delay of first 10,000 points, but it does not really matter.
Moral of the story, every dollar counts, but at a certain point there are just far more important things in life and I lost far too much time over $45.00 than I ever expected.
