I know that if you redeem 4 nights with your points, you get the 5th night free.
But what if any (or even all) of those 4 nights were redeemed using the free night certificate (obtained after each credit card anniversary date)?

Basically, the "5th Night Free" is a specific award cert you order. It just costs you the equivalent of 4 nights worth of points. So you only get the 5 nights for the price of 4 when you order that specific award.

Thanks guys, I guess it was too good to be true. I have 4 Marriott/SPG cards (so 4 free night certs every year) - would have been nice if that netted me 5 days without paying money or using up points lol.
