Finer print:
*A 'stay' is defined as consecutive nights spent at the same hotel, regardless of check-in/check-out activity.

Registration is required. Marriott Rewards, Starwood Preferred Guest, and The Ritz-Carlton Rewards (“Loyalty Program”) members who register for this promotion by January 7, 2019 will earn 2,000 bonus points per stay on stays of 2 or more nights at participating brands. Plus, members can earn an additional 1,000 bonus points per brand starting with the second brand at which the member stays during the promotion earning period. The promotion earning period is for stays between September 26, 2018 and January 31, 2019, at participating Marriott Rewards, SPG and Ritz-Carlton properties. A 'stay' is defined as consecutive nights spent at the same hotel, regardless of check-in/check-out activity. Rooms booked through most third party online retailers and select travel agency bookings are ineligible to earn for this promotion. The member receiving this offer has been targeted and the offer is not transferable. Bonus points will be awarded to the member’s account up to six weeks after the promotion ends. Marriott Vacation Club® owner-occupied weeks are not eligible for bonus points and nights spent while redeeming an award are not eligible for bonus points. Only one room per hotel is counted toward a member’s nights or stay. Members electing to earn miles are not eligible for this promotion. For a list of current participating brands, visit https://www.marriott.com/loyalty/earn/hotels.mi. All Loyalty Program terms and conditions apply. See https://www.marriott.com/loyalty/terms/default.mi for more information. Visit www.Marriott.com/MorePlaces or call 888-MARRIOTT (888-627-7468) for complete details.

Clarification from Starwood Lurker in post 125:
  1. In regards to the part of the offer where you can earn 1,000 points for trying a new brand…There is no minimum length of stay, but you only earn it starting with the second brand. So if you only stay at one brand during the promo period, you will not earn this bonus. But if you stay at 2 or more brands, you will earn 1,000 points for each of those brands after the first one even if the stay is only one night.
  2. You earn on every stay of 2+ nights, so it isn’t about accumulating nights. If you have two stays of 1 night each, you will not earn a bonus. If you have two accounts, you may register for MegaBonus with either or both accounts. You will only be able to earn with one account at a time because you will earn the bonus points in whichever account the stay was booked with. Example: If you have two accounts that are not combined: If you register for MegaBonus with your SPG number and stay with your SPG number, you will earn the bonus points in your SPG account. If you register for MegaBonus with your SPG number but book your stay with your MR number, you will not earn bonus points.

As there is no link I assume this is a joke rather than serious, if it was in old SPG points it would be a joke so must be as its Marriott Points!

It's up.

Is this a mistake?

surely they can't have a promo focused on two night stays? I have 100 actual nights this year but probably 80 or more stays. Who has a lot of two night or more stays that is a business traveler?

Ok enough is enough.... ... is this promotion for real? It has to be an error, they can’t really put us through merger hell and then offer a half eaten peanut... Can they?

Is this how Marriott has always treated its loyal customers? I had planned on making this week my last four stays of the year once I hit the fifty night mark, now it looks like I may make my travel cert the only Marriott stay next year.

Like most, I spend a lot of nights away from my family and use the points to make it up to them. So this hits hard. We need to stay 12.5 to 25 nights to get a free night with this “MegaBonus” %@ Marriott

I really think Marriott would have done better to rely on the excuse that their IT is too screwed up to run promo’s rather than to go with this. Looking at my usual stay history, this is probably much less than a 10% bonus on points for me. Waste of time.

So on a basic cat 5 (35k)

We need to stay 36 nights (and all have to be exactly two night stays) to get a free night with this promo.

You can't even get points as well as breakfast amenity unlike other brands.

Cmon man. This is a pathetic peanut promotion... And a marketing promotion and draw is not a benefit...

Marriott just keeps using the merger for more and more reasons to screw their customers

Its a bad feeling when this is likely the worst promotion to ever hit Marriott, and they're supposed to be dazzling us after the merger. Every announcement is just another downer..

100% agree! All my stays are 1 night!

Now for the 1,000 bonus points per brand.....Do you have to do two or more nights to get that or can I just do 1 night for the 1,000 brand bonus?

Apparently math is not your strong suit, you fail to take into account the 1k pts addition for the per brand bonus, and the points are earned for minimum two night stays, not only two night stays. That free night could be had for a measly 24 nights - insert barf emoji.

This promo is making me further contemplate chasing Hyatt Glob the rest of the year.

I really can't see me getting much benefit from this.

Like many others, my stays are typically for one night only & I won't be chasing 1,000 points just to stay in a Fairfield Inn!

Just noticed the "29 ways" competition - this could be interesting...

Although at this time the link to the competition details does not appear to be working...

Yeah, you can stay 59 nights and earn 2k points too.

Each of those 12 stays are definitely going to be at a different brand too. 12 brands is easy.

All we have to do is stay 12 stays with exactly two nights each at a different brand every stay.

Then we will unlock an ultimate category 5 reward.

The journey begins.. M e g a b o n u s

What a disappointment after the hell Marriott just put us through for the last 3 weeks (which isn’t even over). Welcome to Marriott!

I agree, an underwhelming promotion at best. The previous MegaBonus promo was also underwhelming. IHG, my other program, also has an underwhelming promotion this quarter. I guess they are all feeling very comfortable with occupancy levels and average daily rates so they don't think they need to offer a real promotion. Maybe I will have to revisit Hilton (or Hyatt) and do the ROI math on their programs and promotions. I am sure that is the opposite of what Marriott and IHG had intended as a result of the promotion. The last time I did a serious look at other programs is when I decided to diversify and added IHG as a second program. Net result for Marriott 10 to 20 nights a year permanently lost. If I switch programs again, I will most likely to continue to do so. E.g. more permanently lost nights on an ongoing basis for Marriott.
