Legacy to New Travel Package Conversion (effective August 2018)
A Marriott supervisor can currently convert your legacy travel package into the new category mapping. If you hold a Category 6, 8, or Tier 1-3 legacy certificate, it's ideal to downgrade your certificate before converting so that points don't potentially get lost in the process.

When converting your legacy certificate to a new certificate your prior certificate is cancelled and your new certificate will (in most cases) have an expiration date that is 12 months from the date of issuance (today).

The codes for the New Category partial packages are:
5-night packages
  • OC5=530T/P530 is now NC4 QP53
  • OC6=570T/P570 is now NC4 QP53
  • OC7=610T/P610 is now NC5 QP61 (refund value: 45K)
  • OC8=650T/P650 is now NC5 QP?? (Refund value: 75k)
  • OC9=690T/P690 is now NC6 QP69
7-night packages
  • NC4 QP83 = OC5 830T/P830 (refund value: 45K)
  • NC4 QP87 = OC6 870T/P870 (refund value: 75K)
  • NC5 QP91 = OC7 910T/P910 (refund value: 105K)
  • NC5 QP95 = OC8 950T/P950 (refund value: 135K)
  • NC6 QP99 = OC9 990T/P990 (refund value: 165K)
  • NC6 QP99 = OC Tier 1-3 L830 (refund value: 195K)
  • NC7 QL87 = OC Tier 4-5 L870 (refund value: 315K)
Other 7-night packages
  • NC5 QP88 = OC7 P880 (refund value: 135K)
  • NC5 QP92 = OC8 P920 (refund value: 165K)
legend:
NCx = new certificate category
QPxx = post-merger converted partial package
OCx = old certificate category
QLxx = post-merger converted partial package (only QL known so far is QL87 for NC7)
xx0T = initial package;
Pxx0 = partial package;

MARRIOT UK: +44 20 7012 7312

For best practices on converting OC to NC, I’ve copied post # 1181 here. Thank you jameswes!

(Also, never use the word UPGRADE. You must say you want to CONVERT your certs.)

New data point for the new year.

I've read/followed the majority of this thread and now that I have a plan for how to use the travel certificates I made it happen

Last July, I purchased two OC1-5 travel packages. I have an upcoming trip that I wanted to use the certificates to book two rooms at an NC5 hotel.

1) Verified that I had an extra 120,000 MR points in my account (2x60,000 to upgrade from NC4 to NC5)
2) Call the UK Marriott # in the wiki (+44 20 7012 7312). In total, the call took about 25 minutes.
3) Explain that I have a booking I wanted to make, and I wanted to Cancel my two 830T certificates and convert them to two QP91 certificates. I did need to be clear with the rep that I was going to be using additional points from my account to upgrade the certificate.
Canceling two 830T (OC1-5) added 90,000 points (2x45000) to my account
Ordering two QP91 (NC5) subtracted 210,000 points (2x105K) from my account
4) The rep said that their "specialist" wasn't in the office, but she would leave detailed notes and have him do it the next day
5) True to form, the next day (today), I got an emails saying that my old certificates were canceled and new certificates were ordered.
Email clearly states that 830T certs were canceled
Second email clearly states that QP91 certs were ordered and 210K points were redeemed
Email (and account) state that the expiration is one year from today
As typical, App is up-to-date, website doesn't show the updated information yet.
IMPORTANT! Possible Points Advance Implications of March 5 category changes: There’s a (potential) issue with the category changes and Points Advance reservations. Marriott included the following information when they emailed some of us about the upcoming changes: “Points Advance — Members who wish to book a points advance redemption under the current Marriott Rewards and SPG award chart are encouraged to order redemption certificates before March 5 to lock in the rate. On March 5, redemption bookings are subject to the new unified program award chart.” We’ve reached out to Marriott to confirm the practical implications of this verbiage, as it sounds like Points Advance reservations will revert to the new pricing if they don’t have certificates attached prior to March 5. To be on the safe side, if your hotel is increasing in category be sure your TP certificate is attached to the reservation before March 5.

Concerning use of TP for peak or off-peak, see post 2179:

If you ever read the thread, you would have read about countless mentioning and people's painful experiences - that any change to your reservation be it date change or cancellation, the cert would be canceled and partial value of points returned to your account. In fact this just happened a page or 2 back.

It cannot be emphasized enough this point to the rep. Just tell them you want to detach the cert in case some incompetent reps thought they know more and go ahead to modify your reservation with the cert still attached. Then ithe cert would be immediately gone, liquidated.
Personally I would make sure I see the cert detached before I make the next request.

ALWAYS DETACH the cert from the reservation before you touch the reservation for any reason. Else you would regret on what happens, then be prepared to make many phone calls to get your cert reinstated.
Thx for the advice. Actually this NC TP is from the OC TP. It was detached and reattached before. Each time I call, the CSR complain about the change and say it can't be changed again. But they did say that they would be willing to make changes when closing to the travel date.

Although I doubt many people posting here would be interested, the new Cat 7 travel packages with 110K miles are 570K. The old Tier 4-5 packages, whose hotel awards convert to NC 7, with 120K in miles were 540K. You are correct that 7 nights in a Cat 7 would cost 360K.

I would also suggest that when dealing with Travel Package, whatever your status is, does not make much of a difference because

1) St. Regis is NOT bookable until after Dec 11 or may be a few days after that - that is when St, Regis properties will be finally on Marriott booking platform, therefore allows bookings with Travel Package Cert. Before that, it is a complete waste of your time and theirs, trying to do the IMPOSSIBLE because Marriott system simply would not allow it. Nobody's fault but the merger process.

2) Not every rep is competent or knows the limitation of the system - especially the SPG reps who are totally unfamiliar with Marriott system, supervisor or manager notwithstanding. They would have to call support desks, contact this and that dept which is not at an instant, but also long wait thru their internal system - that is why you have spent so much time and yet still did not get anywhere.

3) Calling back on Dec 7th is useless because it would not change the fact St. Regis is NOT bookable on Marriott platform until after Dec 11 or longer.

One way to self-help is to check on Marriott REGULAR booking and see when you book your St Regis, whether Marriott would redirect you to the old SPG booking platform - if it still redirects, you can forget to book it with TP cert. If it can be booked on Marriott platform, then the migration has completed. Now you can go do battle with Marriott.

I would call Marriott to book instead of your SPG elite numbers simply because SPG reps do NOT know how to deal with this type of award because SPG never has such thing.

4) Dont expect being a LT PP would get special treatment or what not. This status while very important to you, does not seem to mean much when it comes to the customer service you get, especially when you are trying to get the impossible task performed. Put aside your elite status may help you less your frustration. This outrage of the mistreatment of their "most loyal customers" has been a big complaint since August but NOTHING has changed. So save your anger and frustration as it would not help you anything, unfortunately.

Finally I have asked the Mod to merge this thread with the Travel Package thread so all the information would be in one place. If you do not know Travel Package thread exists, you may want to find it and read up some, at least the last few pages to get a better understanding on how Travel Package Certs work. Had you been reading the Travel Package Thread, you would not have gone thru the frustration you currently had, because you would have an idea on when SPG properties migrated to Marriott platform, and you would be well aware that, until such happens, SPG properties can NOT be booked with TP cert! A knowledge we all learned since August, about to be 4 months old.
The simple test suggested above should help you to find out when St. Regis is bookable so you dont call before that happens.

Hi all,

I have an OC-5 which I need to convert into NC4 (QP83), but I'm waiting until I book our trip to Mexico City. In the area of interest, I see several NC4 options (Le Meridien, Marriott Reforma) and NC5 options (JW Marriott, The Habita).

Has anyone been recently? I'd love to know recommendations on the best value on points.

You'd think one of the six agents OP spoke with would have known that SR isn't bookable until Dec. 11.

cs fail of epic proportion

I highly suggest calling the Marriott UK line at +44 20 7012 7312

I tried for weeks just trying to convert my packages with NA reps, and was still bitter my old cat 8 got downgraded. After reading reports of helpful UK agents being able to convert AND upgrade, I called them. Waited on hold for about 5 minutes, got the most competent agent ever, converted my certificates and upgraded them. Also resolved 3 other outstanding issues for me. From now on, UK is my go to phone number.

At this time, we still don't have confirmed codes for either the full or partial Cat 7 packages, even though both supposedly exist. If the new packages follow the same pattern as the old ones, the only difference in the codes should be a change to one or more of the letters which precede the numbers. So whether we are talking about partial packages, like some posters or full packages as the poster you were replying to, the numerical portion of each code should be similar. Although it may not work for NC7 certificates, I have found that giving an agent codes for both the old and new certificates has facilitated transactions.

I obviously understood the simple point you were making. If there was some more complex concept you were describing, please enlighten me. When I responded to you earlier, I decided to list the cost of the old and new travel packages which I thought might be useful to some people. Rather than point out your that you incorrectly stated that current Cat 7 packages cost 360 K, I rephrased you comment so that it would appear accurate.

I gave up on calling Marriott in the US a long time ago. Sick of their incompetence and lackluster attitude.

Today I converted my OC8 to a NC5 with a 30k refund and asked the agent to book a reservation and apply the certificate. She said it was applied, but on my reservation confirmation page I see this:

Please order e-certificate(s) now to ensure your stay is covered.
If you have not ordered e-certificate(s) 7 days prior to your stay, e-certificate(s) will be auto-ordered for you

I don't think I should see this if the certificate was attached. I believe I should see something along the lines of you have ecertificates or something. I called another agent and they confirmed it was applied. Any thoughts? Thanks!

If attached, reservation will show booked with an unusual amounts of points. Instead of 6*35K=210K for 7 nights in a Cat 5, it will show 105K.

Tell the applicable codes for your current and prospective package listed in the Wiki to the agent.

Thanks! It looks like the amount of points is “normal”, so the certificate doesn’t seem to be attached. The reps on the phone say otherwise, though.
