Legacy to New Travel Package Conversion (effective August 2018)
A Marriott supervisor can currently convert your legacy travel package into the new category mapping. If you hold a Category 6, 8, or Tier 1-3 legacy certificate, it's ideal to downgrade your certificate before converting so that points don't potentially get lost in the process.

When converting your legacy certificate to a new certificate your prior certificate is cancelled and your new certificate will (in most cases) have an expiration date that is 12 months from the date of issuance (today).

The codes for the New Category partial packages are:
5-night packages
  • OC5=530T/P530 is now NC4 QP53
  • OC6=570T/P570 is now NC4 QP53
  • OC7=610T/P610 is now NC5 QP61 (refund value: 45K)
  • OC8=650T/P650 is now NC5 QP?? (Refund value: 75k)
  • OC9=690T/P690 is now NC6 QP69
7-night packages
  • NC4 QP83 = OC5 830T/P830 (refund value: 45K)
  • NC4 QP87 = OC6 870T/P870 (refund value: 75K)
  • NC5 QP91 = OC7 910T/P910 (refund value: 105K)
  • NC5 QP95 = OC8 950T/P950 (refund value: 135K)
  • NC6 QP99 = OC9 990T/P990 (refund value: 165K)
  • NC6 QP99 = OC Tier 1-3 L830 (refund value: 195K)
  • NC7 QL87 = OC Tier 4-5 L870 (refund value: 315K)
Other 7-night packages
  • NC5 QP88 = OC7 P880 (refund value: 135K)
  • NC5 QP92 = OC8 P920 (refund value: 165K)
legend:
NCx = new certificate category
QPxx = post-merger converted partial package
OCx = old certificate category
QLxx = post-merger converted partial package (only QL known so far is QL87 for NC7)
xx0T = initial package;
Pxx0 = partial package;

MARRIOT UK: +44 20 7012 7312

For best practices on converting OC to NC, I’ve copied post # 1181 here. Thank you jameswes!

(Also, never use the word UPGRADE. You must say you want to CONVERT your certs.)

New data point for the new year.

I've read/followed the majority of this thread and now that I have a plan for how to use the travel certificates I made it happen

Last July, I purchased two OC1-5 travel packages. I have an upcoming trip that I wanted to use the certificates to book two rooms at an NC5 hotel.

1) Verified that I had an extra 120,000 MR points in my account (2x60,000 to upgrade from NC4 to NC5)
2) Call the UK Marriott # in the wiki (+44 20 7012 7312). In total, the call took about 25 minutes.
3) Explain that I have a booking I wanted to make, and I wanted to Cancel my two 830T certificates and convert them to two QP91 certificates. I did need to be clear with the rep that I was going to be using additional points from my account to upgrade the certificate.
Canceling two 830T (OC1-5) added 90,000 points (2x45000) to my account
Ordering two QP91 (NC5) subtracted 210,000 points (2x105K) from my account
4) The rep said that their "specialist" wasn't in the office, but she would leave detailed notes and have him do it the next day
5) True to form, the next day (today), I got an emails saying that my old certificates were canceled and new certificates were ordered.
Email clearly states that 830T certs were canceled
Second email clearly states that QP91 certs were ordered and 210K points were redeemed
Email (and account) state that the expiration is one year from today
As typical, App is up-to-date, website doesn't show the updated information yet.
IMPORTANT! Possible Points Advance Implications of March 5 category changes: There’s a (potential) issue with the category changes and Points Advance reservations. Marriott included the following information when they emailed some of us about the upcoming changes: “Points Advance — Members who wish to book a points advance redemption under the current Marriott Rewards and SPG award chart are encouraged to order redemption certificates before March 5 to lock in the rate. On March 5, redemption bookings are subject to the new unified program award chart.” We’ve reached out to Marriott to confirm the practical implications of this verbiage, as it sounds like Points Advance reservations will revert to the new pricing if they don’t have certificates attached prior to March 5. To be on the safe side, if your hotel is increasing in category be sure your TP certificate is attached to the reservation before March 5.

Concerning use of TP for peak or off-peak, see post 2179:

Normally, the date will be extended to one year from the date of the conversion.

I have an OC9 - if I extend the dates online or alter the dates of the reservation - does that change my cert in anyway?

I had a 7 night cat 5 certificate attached to a reservation. This cert disappeared when I called to change the dates on 24/11. I received an email confirmation of cancellation, but no email confirming new booking. It did appear in my upcoming stays, but as a points advance booking with no e-certificate. The 7 night cert reappeared on the booking after another phone call on 28/11, but I noticed they'd also taken 105,000 points from me!

2 further phone calls led to promise of investigation, but still got nowhere yet. Do I just need to wait, or is there anything I can do proactively to speed things up. I have some points advance bookings I'll need to settle using the missing 105k points in the next 2 weeks.

No, but converting to a NC6 should.

Waiting won't help. Since it would be hard to find where some of us discussed similar situations, I will try a brief explanation. If you change the date with a certificate attached, it will commonly cancel your certificate. It is always best to remove the certificate first and then make a new reservation and attach the certificate to it. Since you were charged 105K, it possible that you now have a 2nd certificate. Please let us know what happens.

I think I do have a second certificate, and whoever 'purchased' it for me using the 105k probably assumed I got the 105k back from the first one being cancelled. Except, that I didn't get anything back, and the original certificate is not in my account either!

Will update when there is a resolution.

If one of the certificates is attached to the reservation, it will appear as a booking for the number of points the certificate could be liquidated for (105K) and not the full value of a 5-night redemption.

I am in the same situation. Although the activity shows the points deducted for the newly ordered rewards, my total points are not affected... I too am very confused and don't know what to do.

That probably ,means the "deduction" is just a poor way to illustrate the rebooking.

I would definitely keep track of the TOTAL balance and not rely on the activity descriptions whenever you cancel an award, even just point bookings. I have found the display of activities is very clustered, confusing, and often they changed, or worse, DISAPPEARED altogether a few days after the cancellation of an award booking. Because of this, I now take screen shot each time I have done anything modification to the bookings, within a few hours after the changes, AND the next day. On every single occasion when I compare the old records with the updated account activity - they were all DIFFERENT but thankfully my point balance total has NOT changed. So I conclude that, it is the TOTAL that matters and just ignore the convoluted displays of Marriott's online account activity.

My total is wrong, and weirdly the cancellation shows on my activity as '+0' but the agent sees the exact same transaction as '+105,000' on his end. I can't believe how bad their system is and how clueless the agents are!

Marriott IT is just a clown show. Sometimes there is activity showing in the account that is not reflected in the total. Sometimes the total goes up with no corresponding activity in the account. SMH

My award cancellations do not have the + points shown on the line item - it is as +0 as yours but my total thankfully went up after each cancellation and that is what matters.

The key is to keep track of your total by either taking screen shot or keep a record either a spreadsheet or even manually written records, instead of relying on your memory.

Also on the confirmation email of an award booking, you should see the then current total balance. So you can go back to those emails and try to reconstruct your total and see if you are really indeed short 105K. As the other poster also sees the confusing entries but he said his total was correct. Mine is the same situation. Activities are all illogical, but the total stays correct. I know the total is correct because I have been keeping screen shots so I know exactly where it was before and is now, after each change.

Try to reconstruct the history of your total balance - this way it would ascertain one way or the other, whether you are short 105K. I would do this first before continue to call Marriott on this, just to save some time and energy - trying to sort things out with the reps is not a walk on the cake as we all know.

Today I called to upgrade a Cat (6) new system to a Cat (7). I figured it would be 60K points.

1) I got kicked around to four different depts-including MVCI. UNBELIEVABLE. Oh how I miss a competent Plat line.

2) The last rep insisted it would be 120K additional points to upgrade. I thought it would be 60K. His inability to articulate without putting me on hold 5 times left me in doubt.

3) Ultimately, he told me upgrades are not allowed and they would cancel and reissue and the difference is 120K. It isn't. I asked for a supervisor. He told me to hang up and call back. I asked to be transferred. He hung up on me.

I am calling tomorrow during the day. ARGH.

I don't think there is such a thing as a NC7 cert based on multiple posts here.

They sell nc7's on their website though how is there not a code for it?
