Fascinating. My wife and I stayed at the Westin Palace Madrid and overall were really quite non-plussed. It struck me as old and "rickety." Every time we walked passed the under construction Four Seasons Madrid, I just kept finding myself saying, "I can't wait until the FS is open..."

Isn't it slightly unfair to compare any Westin to any Four Seasons? ;-)
This thread is about Westin Hotels... Not even the best hotels in any other brand in the SPG/Marriott portfolio. Just saying

Oh, I agree and that was a little in jest, and certainly not comparing the two directly, just saying that we really weren't very wow'd by The Palace at all. I'll admit, we don't stay at Westin's much but if that is the best in Europe, well... I guess that says something though I'm not exactly sure what...

Regards

Westin Whistler: One of my top 2-3 SPGs.

Huge rooms with full kitchen. Always upgraded to a suite. Next to ski lift and village. Nice staff, good breakfast, pleasant bar for afterski and good dinner restaurant. A winter destination doesn't get much better than this.

I second that, been coming to this one for a decade plus winter and summer, kids grew up walking to the lifts. It was/is this place that locked me into SPG, though I have now explored a few other places.

Only sad thing is the inability to keep any quality business in the Lobby walk, but agree you can't beat the location to ski if that is your / my thing

Westin Tokyo is great. Nice plat suite upgrade, lounge & restaurant were good, easy location to explore Tokyo from.

We also really liked the Westin in Kyoto. More of a Japanese feel, less westernized.

I have stayed at the Westins in Phoenix, Princeville and Cancun. The ones that are/were part of the resort/timeshare collection. These properties are clearly superior and way above what a normal Westin would give. I guess the others in this category like St John etc would have s similar high standard.

But if we were to look at normal Westins since the ones above are in a class by itself, the Westins in Venice and Florence are the best I have ever been. Maybe its a Italian coincedence since I stayed in the St Regis Rome and that was fabulous.
Stayed in 3 Westins in Germany --- Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich. Better than the Westins in NY and LA but not as good as the ones in Italy.

Westin Excelsior Rome for me. Have gotten some fabulous suites there over the years and the location can't be beat.

Looking forward to our first stay at the Westin Palace Madrid next week.

Worst Westin in my book is ATL airport - our one and only stay featured a suite infested with ladybugs!

My vote would go to the the Westin Chaoyang Beijing, nice suite upgrade and the fee flow of Mumm for 3h in the lounge made it a very nice experience ...

[QUOTE=bhrubin;29001532Westin Playa Conchal is also supposed to be wonderful.[/QUOTE]

The Playa Conchal is wonderful. Its one of the only all inclusives FYI. The swim up bar is magnificent.

My PF is the Westin Sydney. Decent pool, nicely renovated, fantastic views & great Plat recognition.

My choices too.

Shout out to Westin Calgary, where the Bloody Caeser (Vodka & Clamato Jiuce) was invented.

And a tip of the hat to the former Dip, for its legendary Plat treatment.

Cheers,

Out of curiosity, how many islands have you been to? On FT one opinion is only as good as the width of experience. Thus please honestly how many have you been to?

My favorite is the Westin Excelsior Rome. The hotel is beautiful the location is outstanding and the suite upgrade my husband and I received in October was amazing. The service is top notch and they have a great bar.

Second would be the Westin Paris Vendome, followed closely by the Westin Europa and Regina in Venice and the Excelsior in Florence.

Worst would probably be the one in Seattle. The service is always good but they need an update.
