Looking forward to try to this later this year. I am a bit surprised to see rates in the high 200s NZD in late 2018. Perhaps rates will come down but at the moment I would not pay this price level unless before seeing the hotel in person, so I will settle with a points redemption which at cat 3 seems fair.

I was in Auckland in December and saw the place going in. It's certainly right in the middle of (tourist) things, including some good food. As Margarita Girl points out, AKL is expensive, pretty much all the time. My Christmas Day Hilton stay was NZ$500+, and that was cheaper than neighboring weeks.

Uhmm.... what's going to happen between the 'official opening day and June 1st!?

Your guess would be as good as mine. All I can say is that this is in no way extraordinary.

My guess is that they are not going to open up the April/May dates until they know 100% when they are going to open. Even 'official' opening dates have a habit of slipping.

Yes, rates are high, but as others have said Auckland is an expensive city to visit these days.

Location is great for catching shows at nearby theaters or concert venues. At north of NZ$200 for a weekend stay it seems a bit steep though. Full service Pullman (which used to be Intercontinental and later on Hyatt Regency) some 10 min walk away with decent executive lounge, nice restaurant for breakfast and nice pool and gym sometimes goes for under $200. I would shop around for the dates I'd need before booking.

Attempted to book using points today but only one room type is shown as non smoking. Superior King, Superior City View King, Superior Double, Deluxe Twin and Corner King are all shown as smoking. Only the Corner City View King is listed as non-smoking and not available on points.

Surely a mistake in the listings? Either that or heaven in hotel form for chain smokers.

The website clearly states under Announcements and Policies that the hotel is 100% no smoking. No smoking in guest rooms or public spaces.
No doubt a mistake on the room descriptions.

Website now states Opening June 1 and only accepting reservations starting June 15 - it seems even William staking his formidable reputation by inserting himself into this discussion could not get those Kiwi builders labourers to work any faster

Four Points By Sheraton Auckland now shows, "Opening June 6, 2018." And the website is accepting reservations beginning the night of June 6, 2018.

I walked by the Four Points By Sheraton while it was under construction. It look good and the neighborhood seems nice. It's an easy walk to the Auckland Art Gallery, the University of Auckland, and the central shopping district. The hotel is less than a mile south of the waterfront and the ferry docks there.

SkyBus New Zealand, the frequent airport bus service, departs from the curb outside the hotel.

It's nice that there will finally be a Marriott-affiliated property in Auckland.

The Hotel is now open. It´s not ready, the constraction is still working.
The room looks nice and modern , the rooms are not really big, but enough for a couple days in Auckland. Great breakfast buffet and a very helpfull staff in all departments.
