This thread refers to the various Marriott brands within a specific geographic area. Marriott Bonvoy hotels in XX usually have posts asking which property is better, etc. Trip reports are usually better suited in the property specific threads.

Can someone who knows list the names of the hotels here in this long thread? Here are the names, addresses, email contact, commonly used abbreviations and some basic info about each hotel. (Location information, CL and breakfast information, UG experiences reported within the thread, typical room layout and frequently mentioned basic advice for different properties.) Keep in mind most posts indicate these are all great hotels. Hope this helps. CJK
  • JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok (JW) 4 Sukhumvit Road, Soi 2, Bangkok 10110, Thailand between the Phloen Chit and Nana BTS Stations. There is a pretty large CL. Elites mostly report having complimentary breakfast offered only at the CL and not in a restaurant. Some are bothered by the hotel's proximity to the Nana district and think the hotel may get some associated business while others (myself) have not really noticed this unless looking hard to see it. The hotel was recently renovated and there are a few posts showing pictures. UGs are usually to the club level regular room where the bathrooms are interior (no outside glass wall) and feature rather small showers but great soaking tubs. Unlike the other hotels listed here, the toilets are not in enclosures.
  • Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong Hotel (Ren) 518/8 Ploenchit Road Khwaeng Lumphini, Khet Pathum Wan, Bangkok almost attached to the Chit Lom BTS Station and the SkyWalk. One can reach the platform without having to walk on public sidewalks and by using escalators/elevators in the building next door, so most feel this is the property with the fastest and easiest access to BTS. The CL is smaller than the JW's and sometimes gets full. Some elites report having a choice of the complimentary breakfast in the restaurant (which is quite good and huge) while others report having that request denied. Latest reports indicate the restaurant breakfast is offered as of April 2018. The hotel does not have many suites so UGs are usually to corner rooms which often have seating and/or dressing areas as well as larger bathrooms with full glass walls. IMO this is the best/most convenient hotel for a first timer looking to do typical touristy things in Bangkok.
  • Courtyard by Marriott Bangkok (CY) 155/1 Soi Mahadlekluang 1 Ratchadamri Road Bangkok is about a five minute walk to either the Ratchadamri or Chit Lom BTS Stations. The hotel operates tuk-tuks to/from the BTS Station. The hotel has a CL and consistently offers elites a choice of breakfast there or in the restaurant. The CL is on the top floor of the hotel and has outdoor seating. Having stayed at the hotel several times as a P, PP and LTP I have never been given an UG, so if there are others who can chime in on that please do. The regular room has a small interior only bathroom with a window overlooking the room and no tub, only a walk-in shower. IMO the price can makes this a great choice, as it is convenient to many places a visitor will go. Sometimes it can be half the price of other Marriott options and they often run double points promotions. (Call the hotel to ask, it cannot hurt.)
  • Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park (Sukhumvit Soi 22) 199 ถนน สุขุมวิท ซอย 22 Khwaeng Khlong Tan, Khet Khlong Toei, กรุงเทพมหานคร 10110, Thailand is about an eight minute walk to the Emporium Mall and Phrom Phong BTS Station either down the Soi sidewalk or through Queen's Park. The hotel operates a regular shuttle to the BTS Station although some have reported trouble catching it back to the hotel. The CL is large, with an outdoor deck, and most people report not being given a choice for the complimentary breakfast in the restaurant. Most Plats report getting UG to a suite, with the M Suite seeming to be most common. It has a living room, bedroom and single large interior bathroom with separate walk-in showers and tubs. This is the largest hotel in Bangkok.
  • Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit (Sukhumvit Soi 57) 2 ถนน สุขุมวิท 57 Phra Khanong, Khlong Toei, กรุงเทพมหานคร 10110, Thailand ([email protected]) is a two minute walk to the Thong Lo BTS Station. Getting to the station involves crossing Thong Lo intersection which can be daunting. The hotel is about a ten minute BTS ride to the central malls, the Ren, etc. The area is a little quieter and more "Thai" than the more touristy/business area where the JW, Ren and CY are located. Some people report being able to have complimentary breakfast in the restaurant while others report lounge only. The CL is about the same size as the Ren's and can get crowded in the early evening. The hotel is on the higher floors of a 40+ story building and the CL is located on one of the top floors, offering stunning views of Bangkok. There is a rooftop bar on the top of the building with great views, too. Elites are often given a coupon for a free drink on the roof. Plats report mostly getting UGs to a two room suite with an extra half bath. The main bath includes an enclosed toilet, a single large walk-in shower and a large soaking tub that can easily seat two. (While the tub is large, the JW, Marquis and Ren tubs are more comfortable for a single person looking to lean back and relax.) IMO this is the quietest of the hotels listed here.
  • Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse 262 Thanon Surawong, Khwaeng Si Phraya, Khet Bang Rak, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10500, Thailand is the newest hotel. As of April 2018 there are not many posts from users who have stayed, nor is there an abbreviation being commonly used on this forum. The hotel is not attached/close to a BTS or MRT station but is near the Silom business area and some more popular adult entertainment establishments.

Allowing elites to partake breakfast at Flavors restaurant is a major enhancement for the Ren stay option as we prefer this food venue. In addition to more food choices which is the same high quality as the lounge, the ambiance here is more pleasant than the lounge with high ceiling and floor to ceiling glass windows making the place bright and cheerful. The lounge with its low ceiling offers industrial design and looks very grim at times.

This is a perfect option for the single traveler or couples. But, still, we don't like the suites at the Ren, not even their biggest "suite". Their suite setup is the only impediment to staying there as a family of 4. It is just a large room that lacks privacy.

I have been at the Ren when they have allowed either option, when they would only allow the CL and when the CL was closed for breakfast for a few weeks after the protests in the parking lot. The hotel was pretty empty and very inexpensive at the time. Of the Marriott options, their restaurant, Flavors, has the best buffet, hands down. It is fun once, but day after day being in the restaurant with so much food got old. A waiter I befriended who was there from Switzerland in a hotel management program eventually arranged that I could order room service breakfast for free which was a nice change.

I have been given a choice sometimes, too, and also prefer their CL for the same reasons. And you get the nice view for breakfast. One time the breakfast rate was less and the clerk, at check-in, was surprised to see I had a breakfast rate. One of those mornings I was eating in the restaurant while several military higher ups in uniforms were eating at a nearby table.

There is a rumor you are more likely to be allowed breakfast in the restaurant if your party includes kids.

I have not stayed at the Ren since the end of last year so there's that. Good to know.

Funny, when I tried to book just now, MR Marquis was back at 25k (Cat. 4). Maybe there's a glitch in the system, maybe they're just toying around...

Did it go up before? I always see Marquis at 25k. What went up without any announcement were Marriott Sukhumvit 57 (from Cat 3 to 4) and now LM Suvarnabhumi.

Indeed, MMQP always been Category 4 but the Marriott Suk 57 (and LM Swampy to Cat. 3) was changed at some point since July from Category 3 to 4. See my post here from June: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/29920491-post1045.html

Edited the Wiki to reflect the changes.

Quick one night stay (6pm landing, 1pm departure) in BKK after the new year.

Second trip to BKK. Had a fantastic time at the Le Meridien last time. A few options I'm considering this time:

- Aloft at $72
- SGS at $142
- Marriott Queen's Park $118
- Marriott Soi 57 $109
- St. Regis $167

I likely won't get the full value of the happy hour benefit many of these hotels offer given the late arrival. I'm not price sensitive — more interested in discovering a new hotel with a great ambiance and in an area where it's easy for a solo traveler to spend a fun layover.

On this stay, I'd probably be looking for:
-> Bar ambiance and free platinum drinks after 8pm (due to later check-in time -- nice to have, but not required)
-> Breakfast in the morning
-> I'm a total sucker for a rooftop bar.
-> Location and proximity to nightlife (bars, walkable streets, etc. not so much nightclubs or sex tourism)

Based on the above, I'm tempted to pick the Marriott Soi 57 based on the price + rooftop bar. Anyone think otherwise?

There is a rooftop venue at the Marriott Queen's Park but it's more subtle than the one at Suk 57. St. Regis also has a patio bar on the 12th floor overlooking the polo club. Not sure if we can call it rooftop bar. I don't think any of these properties will offer you free drinks past happy hour. This is a YMMV situation however if you get invited by a manager to the MMQP Rooftop bar. At the M-Club Lounge check-in, ask to speak to a manager and request a comped invitation to the venue. Mr. Chapman at the SGS is also known to be very accommodating, but, again, YMMV!

All offer comped breakfast for Platinums and VIU at the St. Regis wins this category (IMO due to the fresh Sushi/Sashimi and other high quality selections) with MMQP as a close second.

Sukhumvit 22 is full of drinking bars and so are the Sois on both sides. Many Japanese- themed bars on Sois 24 and 26. There are 3-4 Izakayas right across from the Marriott Soi 57. Sukhumvit 13 where Aloft is located is also pack jammed with bars. SGS is located right on Sukhumvit ...

Why do you suggest requesting a comped entry to the venue? Is there a cover to visit the rooftop bar, and it isn't waived for hotel guests? How are MMQP and Soi 57 different in that regard?

How's breakfast at the Soi 57?
The M Club is what the MMQP calls its executive lounge?

Based on what you're saying I'm starting to think I should narrow down my options to one of the two Marriotts.

Sorry for the confusion! No, there isn't a cover charge at any of the rooftop venues, but all are subject to capacity control. I meant to say food and libations to be comped. Once you are directly invited by a manager, you are escorted to the top as a VIP in an exclusive elevator, hobnob with property managers and other VIPs, and no tab presented at end of the night. Ask nicely and with a big smile! I know about this because I was invited with my family to spend an evening at this MMQP rooftop venue. This venue (even though they had a DJ when I visited) is more laid back, relaxing, and exclusive. At Soi 57, you can find every Tom, Dick and Harry hanging around the sky bar with their cameras/cell phone waiting for the sunset!

Both the lounge and Cafe 57 breakfast are great especially the lobby floor Cafe which ranks 3rd quality-wise on my breakfast best list for Marriott properties. The SGS is just as formidable and ties at # 3 best breakfast.

Yes, the M-Club and the M-Suite at the MMQP.

As they say in Thailand, "up to you"!

See what the SGS enthusiasts will say about it first and then decide!

Soi 57 wins on the rooftop bar. SGS has great breakfast venues and very convenient to shopping and transit. St. Regis is an overall stunning property, with the best pool, but rather sedate. Something else you may want to consider is ease of transport to BKK. I would cross off the Marquis on that basis. The first/last quarter mile on Soi 22 can be particularly brutal. Soi 57 probably wins there (assuming you are going by car).

Actually I think Marquis A Bar is nicer in term of proper cocktail.
but different people has different opinion on what's a nice bar. The octave probably win on view.
