Yup! I would only use marriott pt to stay here for ultra peak!

Can anyone share what are their fav restaurants to dine in Kyoto? (Kids friendly please as I have 2 and 4y olds)

We booked for the Tepura lunch and afternoon tea at Ritz Kyoto so far.

Has anyone had an experience with their activities team? My husband and I were thinking of doing a hike and or bike tour around the city during out stay.

Hi

Just had a 2 night stay on points (my first Ritz Carlton experience). Fantastic stay all round. I'm a platinum premier, but they were completely sold out, so no upgrades available. The basic room was really nice, and a very good size, so no problem there.

Breakfast was free, and the team was super friendly.
@jmj10 - didn't use their activities team, as we joined other tours in the city - felt like it would be a different mix of people.

Overall a great stay

Thanks for the review. Does Plat Permier get free breakfast at Ritz Kyoto because you mentioned it was free.

Also, did you take a picture when you are looking out from your room? What is the view you got as the most basic room?

I booked the sweet fingers dessert making for my toddlers (2 and 4 y old...3500yen each) and the free balloon and treasure hunt activity since we will be there for 7 nights. I do see some activities are free for adults as well!

Thanks! We ended up signing up for the 6:30 AM bike ride to Fushimi-Inari and are doing a sunset hike one of the nights we are there. We are also staying on points and are also Plat. Premier. Did you ask for an upgrade upon checkin? Thanks for the review! We're really looking forward to our stay in November.

I believe so - from reading earlier in the thread, this is something the hotel chooses to do, even though they don't have to (i.e. I got the 1,000 points and free breakfast)

Also, did you take a picture when you are looking out from your room? What is the view you got as the most basic room?
There was no view - there was a fence blocking a view to a graveyard (!)

Do let us know how it goes for you, I'd be interested in your experience.

Great - ditto above, please post a review, especially about the activities team.

I did ask for an upgrade, and that's when they mentioned they were completely sold out. I did check online, and they weren't selling rooms for that night so I believe them

Where did you have the free breakfast? Is there a choice of western of Japaneses breakfast? Or it was buffet?

We need two beds because we have 2 kids so I emailed Ritz Kyoto about the view of our basic room with 2 beds. She said there is only ONE basic room with two beds per floor and the view is just a view of a building so not anybetter than yours.

There's a choice of Western or Japanese. We only tried Japanese, which wasn't a buffet. Didn't see the Western to know if it was buffet or not.

Even without the view, you're right next to the river - it's lovely to step outside and stroll along the river. A view would have been nice, but I wasn't too bothered.

Ginjo Ramen Kubota

That's the best Ramen I've ever had in my life. I'm not exaggerating.

Do take advantage of their activities team. we stayed there over the summer as a large family group (8 people, 1 suite/2 rooms, and 5 days). their activities are amazing. they took us hiking, morning temple visit, biking, watched our kids when we had dinner in the hotel, did a whole bunch of fun activities with our kids in a few other occasions as well. best yet, all of these, other than the temple visit, are free of charge. they even paid for the taxi rides to the mountain where we hiked and the temple we visited. basically aman level service... very impressed

Thank you so much for this post. I never would have thought to check since I usually handle these things myself, but that sounds like a great resource and if it's not costly there's no reason not to make use of it. Did you just reach out to the concierge to organize these things before your trip?

there is a lot of info on their webiste with details and pricing. but yes, contact their guest activities team RC, Kyoto Japan Guest Activity <[email protected]>. its a different team vs. the concierge. i highly recommend the daimonji mountain hike, which is free. they will send a young employee to hike with you. morning temple visit is also great. they charge 100 bucks for up to 6 people, which is actually the same price as what the temple charges directly. but with ritz, you got the transportation and someone to escort you there. enjoy!

Thank you! We scheduled the 6:30 AM bike ride to Fushimi Inari and the sunset hike. Really looking forward to both - wish we had decided to stay more time here, but I guess something to plan for next time! The Activity email was incredibly responsive and helpful.

The breakfast was buffet and/or order off menu. We ordered whatever we wanted and it was free.
