Can't speak to local fire codes or how strictly room-maxes are enforced, but our 2-double room was "normal" sized by world standards. Would've been a little tight for 3-4 but certainly doable.

There has been no activity on this thread for more than a year ... I'm planning a trip to Cairo in February and was interested in this hotel. However, the reviews on Trip Advisor are very mixed and range from the truly awful to overly fawning. Could someone who has actually stayed there during the past couple of years comment whether the rooms are as unkempt and some of the staff as rude as some reviews on TA make them out to be?

I stayed at the Le Meridien with a view of the Giza pyramids a couple years. It was pretty tired.
My friend stayed at a Marriott resort on the Red Sea a couple months ago. It was also very tired. She said the staff were great, though.
Egypt has had such a rough time the last few years tourism-wise that I doubt few hotels have been renovated.

I’ve stayed at this property several times (also Ramses Hilton) and now think this is my go to place without question - still very impressed by the decor and gardens.

I’m staying here at the moment and thus far quite impressed. Arrived around 11a and received a friendly reception and check in, and as a Gold was upgraded to a Nile view Executive room in the tower. This is on a free night earned in last fall’s promotion. This is a huge property (over 1,000 rooms) and I just finished a walk of the grounds and various corridors of the original “palace” building. Suppose some would consider the rooms to be “tired” since they’re a decor common to hotels of the 50/60s but well maintained. I’ll add more later in my stay.

ENJOY!!!! This is on my list of Favorite hotels! Be sure to look into the onsite bakery , and trust me, the goodies taste as good as they look! I LOVE the lounge staff and the goodies in there also!

I will be in Cairo for 3 nights in early January, will need 2 rooms (we'll be 3 adults and 3 children).
Currently have bookings at both Marriott Cairo (at pre-merger rate of 20K per night) and Mena House (at pre-merger rate of 15K per night). Between those two, I'm leaning towards the Marriott based on location.
Besides that, I also have the option of booking Sheraton Cairo for 25K per night.
Which hotel would you all recommend (based on location, upgrades, lounge, etc.)? I'm PPE and plan on trying to use 3 SNAs on one of the rooms.

They are, but Uber or taxis are cheap that it probably doesn't matter. I stayed at the Le Méridien Pyramids Hotel & Spa previously. It was okay and very close to the pyramids in Giza. It's only a category 2 for award-redemption.
Regardless of the property, all of the paid rates for January 2019 are $150 or less, at least for the dates I searched just now. I would pay cash instead of points.

I rebooked 1 room at Marriott Cairo using cash (USD 142 per night taxes in) with the 12% eBates cashback on Marriott.
The other room, I'm using two CC certs that expire in the February, so makes sense not to pay cash in that case.

Does this hotel tend to be generous for elite members now? how was the breakfast and offer at lounge? Is it easy to get an suite upgrade in this hotel?
My friend only got an excutive level room with no nile river view...it doesn't't look like a very well experience to me, but this hotel looks like the overall best options FS Marriott in Cairo...

Lounge has a very nice breakfast and dinner spread.
