Which Marriott in Tahoe?
There are two in Lake tahoe. Both look like timeshares with great reviews. I'm not a timeshare owner but anyone have any recent experience that will push the decision toward one resort or another?

-Marriott Grand Residence Lake Tahoe -Marriott's Timber Lodge Tahoe Regardless, they're both fantastic properties, and in great shape. Location is great, and the staff is wonderful. Steve PS: In the spirit of full disclosure, I'm an owner at the Timber Lodge... :) PPS: If you're there for more than a week, I'd lean towards the Grand Residence. A week or less, go with Timber Lodge... |
Looking at three nights the last week of August in Lake Tahoe. Going to chillout, do a little water stuff- swimming, sailing or kayaking maybe, and maybe one day of mountain biking. We will be coming from Yosemite so hiking maybe not as much of a priority. 2 adults, 2 girls ages 10 and 13.
Options are- Ritz at Northstar- 239 APR for 2 Queen beds resort view + 35 dollar valet parking + (I think) a 25 dollar resort fee (mentioned on Flyertalkbut can't find this in rate rules)- does anyone know what the club upgrade fee would be at this resort for the four of us? Husband is Platinum, don't know what if any free upgrade would be offered, but this is definitely their low season. Grand Residences- 169.00 Guest room, 2 Queen Room details valet parking 26/night Most other options except a pricy 2 bedroom involve sofabeds- which my 13 year old HATES Timber lodge- All options involve a sofabed except the 2 bedroom. Can't decide! |
In my opinion they are basically identical.

Old thread, but I just completed a 2-night stay at the Marriott Grand Residences Lake Tahoe and wanted to provide my feedback.
- this is a time-share property, so no lounge and one can only get the 500pts as the welcome gift (I am Plat Premier); also don't expect a room upgrade (they clearly told me that because it is a time share and that the owner is getting revenue out of my stay, they cannot give a complimentary upgrade) - the weekday rates are incredible: I paid $102 night (+tax) for a 1 bedroom apartment (near 750 sq ft) that had 2 queen beds + 1 sofabed (size = queen bed). But note that there is no self-parking and valet parking is $26/day. - great location, with a lot of food options around the hotel, a supermarket and plenty of stores. It is also walking distance to the Casinos (at state line, in the Nevada side). - the staff was super-friendly and the hotel is in very good condition. The rooms were great, and it was enjoyable to have 2 sofas, 1 large dining table and a full kitchen For dinner I recommend the Englewood restaurant (3mn drive) that has an awesome view of the Lake at sunset. Tahoe is a terrific place, and will definitely come back to that property in the near future |

Over a year ago, we stayed there for 2 nights and parked in a nearby parking lot in a large strip mall (maybe too large to be called as a strip mall). 3 to 4 minutes walk to property.
You probably won't be bothered if you park in the lot for one of the casinos, but it's a longer walk. |
I use always the casinos, also when I stay somewhere else like in Reno and only come for a day snowboarding.
