Lousy lounge food....

Had one of the least appealing (and worst tasting) hot breakfast selection yesterday in the lounge. Poached egg in a half-tomato, no sauce. Tomato overcooked, eggs slightly overcooked, visually unappealing and taste to match.

Yuck.

This AM was better with an "eggs benedict", with the meat replaced by a tomato slice. No sauce, melted cheese on top. Looked OK, tasted OK.

What's your worst lounge food story?

Poached eggs and eggs benedict and you're complaining?

You obviously haven't been to the rest of the lounges in the Marriott chain (at least in the US). Some have downgraded so that there are no hot selections whatsoever.

My pet peeve is when the cheap pastries are still wrapped in the celophane and you can see it is the type of food you would find in a vending machine. It's understandable when they do this at a FF, TPS, RI or SHS, but I've seen it in FS CLs.

I've been to a number of them. I still find hot food at many (most), though it is in limited quantity.

In this case, it was a complete waste to do the hot food - save the money and make something else better. Unless, of course, it was leftovers.

My personal "worst" was MSP airport when Sunday night in the CL meant leftover appetizers from the Saturday weddings. Tasted of the fridge or otherwise stale. Yuck!

This was several years ago, so hopefully the practice has been abandoned.

Before reaching that conclusion, I note that two items of lounge food Wed evening looked suspiciously like leftovers of the food they served at our company meeting the evening before. They were things that I've never seen before in the lounge (and they were pretty tasty, so I can't complain about the quality).

So, apparently the leftovers they served (yuck) were better than the usual offerings (double yuck).

I'm not sure they can reserve the leftovers. Ms. Nolarchy does catering on the weekends, and they have to throw all the leftovers out by law. Based on the amount of food they have sometimes, it's a shame really.

I saw leftovers served at the Cleveland Marriott (downtown).

It would be illegal to serve leftovers that went out and circulated or were on the buffet, but if they made extras that never left the refrigerator or kitchen and the supply at the event never needed to be restocked then I don't see the harm. I don't know how a guest would know for certain they were using leftovers and which kind of leftovers they were.

This is unbelievable!!!:td: How much longer are they going to go down this path of "cost savings" before they realize that they've become a cheap Motel 6 chain? It just shows time and time again that all they want is your money and in return they don't want you to have any expectations, just be happy with a room and some clean towels and anything more than that is asking for too much.

Both the US airlines and the hotel chains have fallen out so much in customer service its not even funny, the one person who they should be caring about is not in the picture anymore (the customer), no wonder it feels like a dream when you stay at a Marriott or Hilton when you travel outside the country even in these tough economic times.
