In Boston, DC and NYC my husband's spend limit is 300 dollars/night. Most other cities it is 175. Often I cannot find any FS in those limits. Boston has been really nuts this year. So he ends up in a Courtyard.

Maybe it's time to start a sticky "CYs that are half decent".

Would be short and easy to maintain.....

Actually, I need to correct myself. I think there is a huge correlation between the service received at a older, tired Courtyard and one that is newer built.

I actually had a decent one night at a newer CY in Stockton, CA - with the new lobby and food - and the staff did what they could to squeeze me in at the last minute.

But the old, tired CY's scattered across the East and South are just to be avoided IME and IMO. Just one bad stay after another that I'll seek out a 1/2 point RI before a CY if needed...

Most Courtyards by now have introduced a fairly nice food station. Many actually have room service. Some Courtyards in terms of general amenities seem hardly distinguishable from full service Marriotts.

There is usually a choice to stay at a Courtyard or a full service Marriott for me. I will usually opt for the lower priced brand. If I can save $30 a night at a Courtyard, that would cover a fairly good breakfast if I was so inclined.
I have to disagree. CYs are pretty bad, regardless of the updates. I would gladly pay $30 more for a FS Marriott just to get a better bed.

I have stopped staying at CYs altogether. If I want to be cheap, I will find a Springhill or something. At least I can grab an apple and yogurt for breakfast there.

Bump.

What can I expect as Gold at Courtyard hotel? Do I get free breakfast?
It is the Courtyard Page.

Thank you.

About the only "tangible" benefit a Gold/Plat will get at a CY is a possible room upgrade. Outside of that, you won't get much at a CY.

And you will probably have to ask for a room upgrade when you arrive. I've had very good results at getting a suite upgrade when asking about one when I am checking in.

I don't think anything is guaranteed, but I often get free breakfast thrown in by the front desk staff or free parking (happened in Portland, OR and Nashville)

I tend to think of Courtyard as a brand much more suited to IHG than Marriott. Inconsistent properties, inconsistent treatment of elites, no real guaranteed benefits, only thing mandated is the points.

Note to IHG and Courtyard execs, that's NOT a compliment!
