Rate changes and differences

I tried to search on this, but I couldn't think of appropriate search terms, but then again, maybe this hasn't been discussed.

I'm going to leave the specifics, such as dates and the city involved.

I'm searching for price and availability at a European Marriott-brand hotel for the spring. It's a four-night stay, two weekend days, two weekdays. I get different prices based on the searches.

1. Pricing out just the Saturday and Sunday, it's 129 Euros for each night.
2. Pricing out just the two weeknights = 169 Euros each night.
3. Price out the four consecutive nights = 129 for the first two (weekend) nights, then it goes to 199 for the next two.

What gives?

Normal weekend rates, which are usually much lower at many city hotels where business travelers usually fill them during the week. If you change your trip to arrive Thursday and depart on Monday, you may well get weekend rates for all 4 nights.

Now I don't know why you are getting 2 different prices for the week nights. Book 2 separate reservations using the lower rates; I do it all the time.

that's how i do it, 2 separate ressies...then i call marriott and have them join the two into one...if they can't then the property can (and sometimes....they do you a favor and keep it at the lower rate!)

Generally, weekdays are more expensive than weekends at business travel hotels. Often times, if you're staying on a Sunday through Thursday, you'll get the weekday rate. If you're staying Friday & Saturday, you get the weekend rate. And if you're arriving Thursday, staying through the weekend, you'll get the weekend rate on Thursday. And if you're staying Sunday night, but coming in prior, you'll often times get the weekend rate on Sunday as well.

As others are noting, in your situation, it may be better to make 2 reservations and then just let them know at check-in that you've got a second reservation & they'll combine them and let you keep the same room then. It's probably just a systems glitch that's not intentional.

I find this occurs quite a bit, since I usually travel from Saturday to Monday or Tuesday.

If I find this situation, I just call central reservations and tell them what rate I want for each night and they put it into one reservation. Very quick, especially on the elite lines. That makes checkin a lot easier.
