Question about expiration of your Marriott level
Where in your profile do you see the day that your Marriott silver, gold or platinum level goes back down one notch?
I'm silver, been it for some time but haven't got any hotel stays since one year. So naturally it should go down. I still see silver in my account and will actually be staying a dozen night just over one week from now at a Marriott hotel, but I'm wondering if my account will revert to blue (or whatever the standard level was). All I see at the top of my account is a message stating that I can buy silver status again for a "special price" (of 7500 Marriott points) if I do so prior to the 31st of March. So is that the final day of my Silver membership? I gather, that if I do get my dozen nights credited before the membership year is over, I should retain silver as normal plus get the 20% bonus on points? thanks |

You don't see it in your profile. However, a very easy way to tell is to pull out your elite card and look at the expiration date at the bottom right corner of the card.
FWIW, 2008 elite status, earned from stays in 2007, is good through the end of the February 2009. Due to the buyback offer you received, I would venture to say that you will drop to General Member come March 1. However, you will be Silver again after your 12 night stay. You could call MR and see if they can extend your status in light of your upcoming 12 night stay, or call them after the fact and see if you can retroactively get the bonus points, considering you were Silver elite at the beginning of the stay, even though status at the end of the stay is what determines your bonus. Who knows maybe you will get the bonus anyway. I have been the same status for so long, I just don't remember, but my guess is that it is determined by your status at the end of the stay, and you don't get bonus points for the qualifying stay. If I am wrong, I am confident others will correct me. |
Ok, thanks for that. I'll call first and find out if they can extend it until my stay is over. Doesn't seem to make financial sense to pay $100 for 8000 points just to keep silver and then get my ~30,000 points (stay will most likely cost $3000 total) + the 20% bonus of ~6000 points.
