Change of Earning Preferences
 

Can't seem to find a thread here on this. What happens to earned points if I suddenly change earning preferences to miles?

While I have not done it myself, I can't see how your current balance would change. IOW, changing your earning preference only changes what you earn from that point on. It has no effect on what you have already earned.

thanks! i was just thinking that since when earning miles, no accumulation happens on your account but is posted directly to the concerned FFP, there are possibilities my points will be wiped off as it is not the selected earning preference?

Has anyone recent experience with changing Earning Preferences?

My question is the same: if I temporarily change the earning from points to miles and a few months later back to points, will my existing points remain untouched or will they all be automatically converted into miles?

Your points will be fine!! Not only that, but if you have a Megabonus offer (say 1 free night for 2 stays) that requires earning points, you can continue the promo from where you left it before changing to miles!! ;)

I do this all the time and have even switched points back and forth during a week.

As noted, I was able to earn both megabonuses the miles version and the points version.

I agree with all who have posted. Nothing will happen to your points as long as you still have activity. You are free to switch back and forth as often as you like.

Actually i had the same question (i want to change to miles for the US GS and then back to points for the Megabonus) and i called MR CS just to make sure..twice!! ;)
