Had friends (Platinum) in town who recently stayed at the Fair Oaks Marriott. The CL lounge was closed for the Holidays Dec 20 - Jan. 4. They received coupons for free breakfast in the restaurant and free appetizers as well for the length of their stay. BUT, while they were "upgraded" to the concierge level, the room they were staying in had no bottled water, no robes, no mouthwash. When they called down to inquire about the usual amenities, they were told, "When the lounge is closed the regular concierge level amenities are discontinued as well. Water is available through the vending machines. We are currently out of robes and mouthwash, but there may be some available for purchase in the gift shop."
They also put a high school basketball team on the concierge level. So it was anything but quiet. RIP.... What an awful experience! Ours could have been that bad because we had a convention of high schooler's that took up two floors! It was for some virtual project they were doing. The kids were not bad kids, per se, but get 300 kids in a group and, well, you know what I mean. The moderators could only be in one place at a time. Marriott staff told us that the moderators were placing tape on the outside doors so they could see which kids left the room after the curfew. I'm soooooooooooo glad they were not on our floor because we would not have slept a wink.... I think not having those other supplies is ridiculous and should have nothing to do with the lounge closing. Geez...what else can they take away? Dawn |

Who decides this nonsense? The property or MI? Can't put out a bottle of water and mouthwash? When spend the time, money and effort to build a positive brand name and service/status expectation only to to let something as stupid as this diminish it? |
Just came back from the Istanbul Renaissance... was disappointed the club lounge was closed from December 4th - January 28th.
Hotel was nearly dead, the lounge was supposedly closed for 'renovations' - but, I was on the club floor and you can see into the lounge from above (a nice setup actually) and it was 'as is' with no changes made... potentially another one closed due to low capacity. In return for the closure you were given access to the normal hotel bars with complimentary drinks/breakfast/nibbles, which might be better to some (the full breakfast buffet was appreciated by my wife and I!) - but, its not quite the same as wandering into a pleasant quiet lounge right next to your room. |
We stayed at the New York Marriott Marquis from 23-26th December. The lounge closed after breakfast service on Christmas Eve and re-opened in time for breakfast on the 26th. We were given a coupon for the continental buffet in the 8/F restaurant on Christmas Day but only after I requested one. The CL was so packed each morning I found it better to bring back food to my room and eat in there instead. Breakfast in the restaurant was better than the club lounge. Declined the option to upgrade to a full American breakfast for an extra $8pp.

I never use the bath robe and only use the mouthwash occasionally. In past years, they kept the amenities and did not offer appetizer coupons when the lounge was closed. |
Renaissance Chicago Northshore (Northbrook, IL)
Arrived yesterday at the Ren Northshore to find the new MI policies implemented. Not sure why they waited til month-end (I've been staying since Sept 08 with no visible changes to policy), but now they:
Hotel occupancy is WAY down, which is visible based on lobby activity, cars in the parking lot, and morale of the staff. |
