I've received mail from Marriott as below:

Your Marriott Rewards account has now been upgraded to Gold Elite status, with an expiration date of February, 2010. A Gold Elite membership card has been requested. Please allow four to six weeks for processing and delivery.

Just as a reminder, this is an exception and you will need to stay the qualifying number of nights during 2009 to retain this status for the following year.

However, I cant see the status on the website yet. Will the hotel system be updated with my updated status?

Contact the hotel and forward the email or if paper letter bring with you at check in if by the time you stay you still cannot see your new status.

however, I would advice you going for other hotel programs. This one has just had a major point devaluation. With your 50 nights per year you will make top tier at other programs (Diamond/Platinum) with better returns than you get at MR.

Thanks. Now I can see it online. As expected the hotel guys could not see it online. What a shame !!!

I tend to agree with some of the boarders here. Marriott Rewards seems to be a pain for much less gain.

These guys are so arrogant. I've anyway now completed 50 nights but just to credit that they made it such a big noise as if an exceptional thing has occurred. While I can see they offer these things just to for free to sign some visa card or for other FF programme members.

Now they have made a mistake in crediting points for my stay last week - credited only 30% of eligible points. But for their mistake they need me to email, fax or post a copy of invoice to them. Only then they can review it and relook at crediting.

I've had a few problems with stays crediting (US and Canadian hotels) in the past few months. I called the Gold Elite number and someone straightened it out over the phone.

As Kate_Canuck mentions, if your stay was in the US and maybe Canada, MR should be able to pull up your stay information themselves. I don't think MR can do that yet for stays in other parts of the world though. So you would still need to keep your stay receipts and fax copies to them.

I am trying to manage by 75th night to be in 2009. I am now on 71 nights. I moved last couple of weeks to other hotels.

By 31st I'll do another 3 nights and then 1st week of Jan I'll complete 75th night. Hopefully that will make me achieve my plat status and maintain for 2010 and 2011.

If you get your 75 days in this year, you will be a Plat for the rest of this year and all of next year (2009). If you wait and get that 75th night in Jan '09 through the rolling 12-month calendar, then you will be Plat for the rest of 2009 AND all of 2010 as well.

So if you have the option, you might want to wait to reach the Plat milestone.

Thanks very much for the post above. Just to feedback.

Based on above I completed 74 nights in Calendar Year 2008 and waited for 2009 for next stays.

I stayed last week 4 nights. And today I can already see my MR status upgraded to Platinum (hopefully valid up to Feb 2011) just in time when Platinum will get 50% bonus according to revisions to MR programme.
