Newport Beach, CA

Going on vacation next week and I currently have reservations booked at both the Marriott Newport Coast Villa's and the Newport Beach Marriott.

I have stayed at the Newport Beach Marriott before and enjoyed myself, however thought this time around I would stay closer to the beach and at the Villa's.

After reading many reviews, I have found out that there is limited activity / nightlife in the area of the Marriott Villa's and thought I would ask around for feedback on both locations.

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

That may be, but there is an awesome golf course (Pelican Hills) near the Villas if you are a golfer. It ain't cheap, however, green fees are about $250. But, it is a great, great course with several holes on the ocean 18 going right down to the ocean.

We (family and 4 children age 16-22) stayed for a week last year at the Newport Beach Marriott. I found it a great location. Decent conceirge lounge. Nightlife and restaurants down the road in Laguna are pretty good with a 10-15 minute drive. I prefer Laguna Beach which is a great little beach town. Nightlife and restuarants down at Newport beach are limited but decent. The beachs from either location are 5-10 minutes or less (the Newport coast villas are across PCH from the beach).

Newport Beach Marriott is also next to the Newport coast shopping center, which has many options. I also second the golf at Pelican Hills, one a my favorites, and a course which you will rarely see other golfers as most of the holes are not parrallel.

I live about halfway between the two (Corona del Mar) and both are nice properties. There is definitely more to do in the immediate area of the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel and Spa (which as said, is across from Fashion Island Mall) but the immediate surroundings are not very "vacation-like". The Newport Coast villas are quieter, more secluded, and surrounded by multimillion dollar housing developments (there is little else in Newport Coast) and would in my opinion be better suited for a vacation base.
