MVC nights count towards Elite Status
 

I'm copying the following from a recent post in the Timeshare User Group forum (TUG.)

It will be of interest to anyone who owns any Marriott Vacation Club timeshare weeks.


Please know that as of July 1, 2008, one elite night credit is earned
for each night stayed during your designated ownership week. In
addition to getting Elite night credit for your ownership stays,
beginning August 1st, Elite members now receive benefits when staying at
MVCI properties. You receive a 10% discount at the Marketplace, bonus
points for incidental charges, and Platinum members receive 500 points
as a Platinum arrival gift.

We are pleased that Marriott Rewards is now offering this for MarriottVacation Club International owners.

It specifically talks about "ownership" stays...but does this apply to paid stays for non-owners, too?

This is still in discrepancy with what is on the Marriott website...

Paid stays have always counted for points and night credit.

I guess "nights credit" is limited to nights stayed using the purchased week at the home resort. Therefore if an owner wants "night credits" he has to give up the privilege of exchanging or even locking-off the specific unit. Exchanging into high demand locations/seasons and/or getting additional weeks for your owned weeks is a real big benefit. As for me mentioned benefits do far outweight the "loss" of 7 nights "stay credit" per ownership week. So as owner and MR Plat member who never uses his original purchased weeks my only benefits of the modifications are some bonus points. The mentioned discount at the Marketplace isnt a big deal either as many resorts will hand out you some sort of discount card together with your welcome package anyway.

If i am wrong and one get "night credits" for MVCI stays generally (re)qualifying for status within MR becomes less costly than today and there are a quite a few new "Matress run" options available.

Several times in the past we've received "nights credits" when we exchanged our MVCI unit thru Interval International to another MVCI property. You just have to make sure you link the Marriott reservation # on your II confirmation to your MR account or do it when you check-in. Up until now the only time we have not received nights credit was when we were staying in our home property during our season. Now we'll get that too!

I did a marriott to marriott II exchange into MGC for this December and was able to link the II reservation to my MR account with no problem. It now shows on my future reservations list with MRewards. We'll see if they credit the stay.

I did not get credit this April when we stayed at Beach Place using our home week.

Great heads up aka julie. This should help Starbucks ( and me ). The folks who benefit the most from this are multiple week owners who can churn out a lot nights. I see this as a good ownerhsip enhancement since MVC owners get hit with significant ownership devaluation as the MR program raises redemption requirements and the annual MFs keep going up. Together, they decrease the value of turning you MVC week straight back to Marriott for the MR points. This is a good carrot and stick solution for those MVC folks who wind their timeshare usage into non-TS stays with Marriott.

In theory yes, in practice not always so easy depending on how you book. I took a 3 night package from Marriott Vacations, was never able to get credit despite rather unambiguous terms on the website. I finally gave up as it would not have affected my lowly silver status. :D

If you book through Marriott.com you will probably have less trouble getting points.
