Yes, I always pull up and then reserve the best rate available with no code at all and then try the usual 'publicly available' codes such as WKD, PKG, EAT and S4B to see if anything better comes up.

Marriott honored their 'Best Rate Guarantee'
I have a summer room in Stuttgart for 83 Euros per night (it was 175 per night)!!
I typically make reservations using Marriott's website where they have 'Marriott's Look No Further Best Rate Guarantee'. They promse to not only match a better rate found on another site but beat it by 25%. After making a reservation, I found a special rate on Orbitz. I called Marriott and told them what/where I had found the better rate. About one hour later, I had an email showing by revised reservation with the NEW rate. Thank you Marriott!

Very Interesting. I hope someone got the $189 rate from my post. I went all the way to the payment page and have screenshots of $189. Sure enough the rates changed to $239 on Expedia and Orbitz within 20 minutes of my post.
