Marriott Pool
 

My kid wants to go to the local pool (I live in CLT). I was wondering if anyone had any luck (I am MR Gold) with hotel giving them hotel rate that would only include access to pool (no need for room) to spend few hours?

just walk in the door with your head held up high with confidence and stroll right to the pool!

(i actually used to do that with a different marriott. I would walk across the street to the one that had free breakfast and then back to my hotel to change and go for work.)

My husband was attending a convention at our local Marriott this week. We spent one night there but the rest of the week at home. I asked a desk clerk about our kids using the pool one day while we were waiting for him to attend a session and the clerk told us to go right ahead and use the pool. We spent plenty of $$ there this week what with the 20/day parking and lunch every day so I felt no guilt about 2 dirty towels and some pool time.

If I read it correctly, you would be "dropping off the kids" to use the pool? I do not believe Marriott's business model is to be a babysitter. What happens if something happens to the kids while they are unsupervised at the property?

Now... if you meant that you and the kids want to use the facilities, you could ask at the front desk... however, I am not sure why the hotel would want to give away their facilities when you do not provide that particular hotel with business.

And, I would consider it stealing to take advantages of services as a property you are not a guest of....

One Marriott on the east coast (which shall remain anonymous)
actually sold me a day pass to the gym and pool for $10.
The front desk staff did not treat it as an unusual request.

As for "walking in," securityusually prevents that. Most Marriott pools require
a room key for access.

No, here is what I was hoping for.

Me and my daughter stop by, I pay some reasonable price ($10/20) for pool access so my kid can swim. I would crank up my laptop and sit at the pool and do the work while she is enjoying the pool.

I did call the hotel and explained, they wanted $119 for one night room rate! Ouch. I have season pass for the Carowinds here in CLT but they don't have laptop power close to the pool area where I could work and keep an eye on my kid so that was out.

So no I wasn't planning to do anything to cheat but $119 was bit steep for kid to use pool while I was trying to do some work.

Certainly a more noble gesture than what others jumped in and assumed.

You could stay for lunch, perhaps even poolside room service, I would have no issue with that if I ran the place.

I guess you've done the pool / work / watch thing before? I can't image that you'd get 5 minutes peace unless she brought a friend or is at that age where she doesn't want to be seen with her daddy. Small kids love your attention at the pool. I'd add just turn off your laptop and enjoy the day but I'd be just as guilty myself.

Yeah some sort of lunch at the pool was an idea. She is teen so she would be ok most of the time.

Since hotel pool was out of the question (called and basically they said no) we went to Panera Bread and had lunch there. I worked while she was busy doing some math and English worksheets I've printed off the net before we left.

I am sure pool would be better. But $119 was out of the question.

Some hotels do provide access to non-guests for a fee (there's a few that quickly come to mind - one no longer around is the old Detroit Airport Marriott)

And some are just overrun by non-guests (Phoenix and Palm Springs resorts come to mind here, not a disrespect to the OP as she took the professionalism of calling the hotel to ask if she could use it as a non-guest)...
