Cat. 4 property with Lounge in DC area?

I have a Cat. 4 cert that I'll be using in Sept. in the DC/DCA area and I could only find one Cat. 4 property that has a Con. Lounge--the Crystal Gateway Marriott. Did I miss any?

What are the chances that a Gold would be able to get a room on the Conceirge level in mid-September (Sunday>Friday stay)?

That looks like it....it isn't a bad hotel at all...the lounge/wine bar have some good lite things to eat......close to everything...attached to Crystal City underground and metro....

you'd have a good shot at a room on the CL I think.......at the worst, you'd get a key!

have fun.

I don't think you missed any either. Even as a plat I don't know if I've ever had a stay actually on the concierge level, but like megatravels says, you should still get access.

(But, oddly, why is the Crystal City Marriott a category 5 and the Crystal Gateway a category 4?)

What is your definition of the DC area? If you include the suburbs not directly by DC, there are several other properties that have a lounge and are category 4.

They include:
(in Virginia)
Tysons Corner Marriott, Fairview Park Marriott, Washington Dulles Airport Marriott, and Fairfax Marriott at Fair Oaks (category 3)
(in Maryland)
Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, Bethesda Marriott, and Gaithersburg Marriott Washingtonian Center

In that case why the misleading title to the thread?

you should have asked 'Any Cat 4s with a Lounge within X miles of DC' Instead you asked ..in the DC area what VA1379 posted was a proper answer to your misleading question

being a Mod over @ CC, you should know full well to spell everything out

Which of the above(if any) have easy access to train/subway service into town?

Planning on staying week for sightseeing(never been)and would like to use up a MR 7 night certificate good for category 1-5)

Wardman Park is a Cat. 5. I prefer the Marriott Key Bridge which is also a Cat. 5. They treat Gold/Plats well including free breakfast on the weekend. It is close to the Blue and Orange Metro Lines, and a shuttle across the bridge to Georgetown stops in the hotel driveway every 15 minutes.

I was out there in 2006 and we stayed at the Fairview Park Marriott in Falls Church (Cat 4). It's a little ways out of town (and on a beautiful plot of wooded/secluded land so you don't feel like you're right off the highway), but they have a free shuttle to the metro station, so we just took that to the metro, then used the metro to get around town. Maybe 20 minutes or so to get into the heart of DC, but well worth it, I think. The next time we go, we'll definitely stay at the same place.

The only thing I would do differently is not pay for the taxi from the airport - take the metro (DC's system is clean and easy to use) to the Dunn Loring metro station, then have the hotels metro shuttle pick you up -- no need for rental cars or taxis the entire trip.

I would recommend the Crystal Gateway Marriott since it is directly accessible to a metro stop via the underground tunnels. This property is nicer than the Crystal City Marriott (despite being a lower category), and it is the closest to DC. The Fairview Park Marriott runs a shuttle to the Dunn Loring metro stop on the orange line, and they have a nice concierge lounge. However, they have recently stopped giving free breakfast on the weekends to gold and platinum members.

I have not stayed at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, but it is within walking distance of the White Flint metro stop. Two factors are what airport are you flying into and whether you will have or need a car. Parking is free at the Fairview Park Marriott, but you will have to pay at the other two properties that I mentioned (as well as at the Key Bridge Marriott and the Wardman Park Marriott). If you interested primarily in exploring DC and Alexandria, you will not need a car. A car is useful if you want to visit Mount Vernon, take a side trip to Baltimore or Annapolis, or travel outside of the inner area around DC.
