honor bar system
 

Hi,

I´m a new MR Gold (not by invitation:)). I haven´t been to an CL yet. I´ve some upcoming stays in hotels is a "honor bar". I did a search and found out taht I have to fill out a to fill out a slip. How much to Marriott charge for the booze - same prices like the hotel bar/minibar??

Roughly the same price you'd pay at the hotel bar, but at least every drink's a double :D

Except that at some lounges, the attendant pours the drink.

Also, I've found that at some lounges, the price of a glass of wine exceeds the hotel bar.

And note that some, if not all, JW's provide gratis wine/beer/liquor. (At the JW Grand Rapids, where drinks are complimentary, the attendant told me that such was the policy at all JW's. I don't know whether or not that's accurate.)

The attendant complained to me a few years back at a FS Marriott that I had mixed my drink too strong at the honor bar (sure, it was a double, but it wasn't like I poured an entire glass full). I told her "I've turned in the slip, if you want to change it, my room number on the slip was XXX". She didn't change it.:eek:

Wine and Beer are $3.50 at the CLs I have drank at. Bar downstairs was double that... More than double on the wine.

Please tell us which Marriott properties provided beer and wine at $3.50 in their concierge lounges. Thanks.

My first experience with REN, I was in McAllen, TX I THINK. A REN right on the border from Mexico and it was an honor bar with no attendant, not gone briefly, NONE. One guy was there 3 nights a week for 2 months with the USDA. He said basically fill out a slip for one drink and have 3.........

No, drinks are not complimentary at all JWs.
What I find annoying is the high prices at some hotels. The DC M Street Renaissance charged $9 for some inexpensive brand of wine. I thought that was out of line and haven't returned to the hotel since.
I don't understand the pricing of alcoholic drinks especially in view of the CL purpose of providing some amenities for guests. Why free food and free non-alcoholic drinks and then price gouging in some instances on alcoholic drinks? The Atlanta Marriott downtown charged some high price and had an attendant pour the alcohol and offer a chit that included a line for a tip.
I'd love to know the philosophy behind the alcoholic beverage charges at the different hotels especially since some properties offer free alcoholic beverages or charge only modest prices.

I had a $3.50 Merlot last night in the CL at the Fremont Marriott in Fremont, CA. BV Coastal... not a bad pour at an honor bar in my opinion. Beer is Heinies, and a few domestics.

It is one of my favorite FS Marriotts, due to location to my customers and great staff. Of note, the Concierge Lounge just opened back up after being shut down and relocated to a meeting room for 4 weeks. They did an extensive remodel and now it is much improved.

The Renn in AMS has free bevie in the evenings. It is to a few hours (I think until 9pm or so) and remember.....it's only binge drinking if you stop.

Quite a few of the non-US based Marriotts provide free booze in their CLs. Though I do believe most of the London based Marriotts used to provide it free, but don't any longer.

So, is the JW in Grand Rapids more the exception or the rule?

The one I couldn't understand was a Baileys is £4.50 at the London Marriott Kensington and £6.50 at London Marriott County Hall! I know County Hall has another star but £2 extra per shot - yikes!
