Hyatt gives breakfast to every diamond STANDARD, 7 days a week.

Marriott gives them to Plats as they see fit, without a rhyme or reason, YMMV.

This is why I stay at Hyatts more and more, and definately on WEEKENDS!

The CY Herndon Reston gives platinum members a free breakfast everyday (excluding tip). I always find two free bottles of water when I stay, in addition to my regular platinum gift. In addition, they usually hand out a half liter bottle of Fiji water to all guests upon check in.

Do you ask or being Plat they just give you breakfast for free? You get coupons?

I am staying at CY Herndon Reston next week (stayed one night this week too).

They hand out a purple colored coupon at check in. You get one for each night of your stay. I don't know if they would give extra coupons if you had more than one person in the room.

I can't remember ever just getting the free breakfast coupons at a CY. I normally make a habit of asking about a suite upgrade and free breakfast at the CYs I visit. My record of suite upgrades is pretty good when I ask, but the free breakfast is much more sporatic. Though I have found that if I have any "issues" at a CY, they are very free with offering free breakfasts as a compensation.

I am not accustomed to asking as I always feel that they will think I am arrogant or something. Plus being non-native English speaking person works in my disadvantage at times. Any good phrase to use so one comes out polite yet asking for upgrade?
