TV w/ Spectravison box with remote control
TV w/ Spectravison box with remote control w/ Basic Cable stations
TV w/ OnCommand
TV w/ OnCommand w/ 27-inch CRT TV
TV w/ OnCommand w/ Expanded Basic/Sat. stations
TV w/ OnCommand w/ 32-inch LCD TV
TV w/ OnCommand w/ 32-inch LCD TV w/ HD programming

Or the proper evolution of TV....

TV
TV w/ Spectravison box with knob
TV w/ Spectravison box with buttons w/ HBO, ESPN and Headline News
TV w/ Spectravison box with remote control
TV w/ Spectravison box with remote control w/ Basic Cable stations
TV w/ OnCommand
TV w/ OnCommand w/ 27-inch CRT TV
TV w/ OnCommand w/ Expanded Basic/Sat. stations

PROMISE OF FLAT SCREENS...
TV w/ OnCommand w/ 32-inch LCD TV (1% of rooms)
TV w/ OnCommand w/ 32-inch LCD TV w/ HD programming (.1% of rooms)

Hyatts consistantly have MUCH BETTER TV's!

Agree that courtesy, consideration, and civility have been in decline.

But the quality level of Marriott-branded product keeps going higher....

.....As do Marriott room rates and the dedgree of difficulty in redeeming Marriott Rewards points.

The latter should change soon. With oil prices going through the roof, the credit crunch, and overall consumer sentiment in the toilet; people just aren't going to travel as much as they used to. As a result room rates will start coming down when hotels aren't filled, and there should also be more award availability. I remember the great rates in 2001 and 2002 because people were afraid to travel. Now many can't afford to travel or choose not to travel because of high airfare, resulting in same effect.

With regard to quality decline... I have seen no change in level of service at the properties I frequent.

So ballcaps and/or flip flops is disrepectful? Are you talking guests or front desk people?

I've never really thought about what others are wearing as a sign of respect, or lack there of, to me. Interesting.

Really? Old Hickory's post specifically referenced "dinner" - I too find it disrespectful to be in a fine dining establishment with flip flops and ball caps in view. Mickey D's maybe, but not at "dinner."

I would also find it disrespectful if someone were to wear flip flops and a ballcap to - a funeral? in a hospital? at a job interview?

Although I cannot say that I find what people wear disrespectful to ME, I certainly can say that it is possible for it to be disrespectful to a situation, and I believe that is what Old Hickory meant, too -

Again, I'm a huge MYOB kind of guy. If a person wants to wear flip-flops/hat to dinner why the heck would I care? How does this have ANY effect on you? If you are minding your own business, I wouldn't think you'd even care.

Disrepectful to the situation? I actually laughed out loud when I read that. I just don't buy it. Why would you care about any of those places?

Funeral....you can where whatever you'd like to mine.
Hospital....again who cares what they wear?
Job interview....if they think they can land the job why would you care?

This entire disprectful thing when it concerns what others (who aren't involved with you in any way) seems way uptight to me. We'd be much better off if people worried about themselves a little more and others a little less.

I'll add that I don't wear flip-flops (unless its in the gym shower) or a hat but I do wear t-shirt and workout shorts nearly all the time. I just can't imgaine someone being so uptight to actually care what I'm wearing.

I don't think the quality has declined. I do think that the "value" has. By that I mean as Marriott elevated most of the hotels' category and made "saver stay" harder to find, "value" declines.
Sometimes when plats don't get room upgrade, we tend to think the quality has gone down (in this case, the quality of services).

Sophiegirl....

I essentially agree with you. I'm a MYOB kind of guy myself, and I like being as casual and comfortable as possible, but I still believe there are....or should be...differences between what would normally be worn at home an in public.

Unfortunately, however, in today's society slobs rule.

So at diner if someone across the room is wearing a hat you feel offended?

Where do we draw the line?

Its hard to think of being a MYOB person when people doing things that have no effect on you seem to bother you. Please help me out with this logic.
