Marriott Status Match
 

Anyone know if Marriott does status match from an airline? (i.e. US Air Platinum)

I've only heard of hotels doing status matches based on status with another hotel. Here is a lot of discussion on hotel status matches. Occasionally, a hotel chain will offer a status to members of an airline who have a particular status. This is not done on a case by case basis, but must be initiated by the two marketing partners.

I've NEVER seen anything consistently, but I know that a couple years back, United Premiers were given Hhonors Gold cards. It's unclear to me if it was sponsored by the airline or the hotel.

Pardon me for being a bit cynical, but I can certainly understand why you would WANT a hotel to match an airline status, but I'm genuinely curious to know why you think they SHOULD?

What from the OP makes you think there is a sense of entitlement? The OP just asked if Marriott does a match. Given that elite status with some airlines can get one elite status in some hotel programs, this isn't an unreasonable question to ask.

I never claimed anyone should do any kind of status match. It is not a matter of should at all. I would like to find some hotel chain that would do the match (preferably Marriott as I stay with them often - around 30 nights - but not often enough for Gold).

It is certainly in a "would be nice to have" category, not "should" category.

If you live in the United States, you can get an extra 15 nights elite credit by having the Marriott Premier card. That would put you at 45 nights a year, and you could hit 50 and reach gold with a few mattress runs.

Yes the visa would put one at 15 nights but where are the other 30 nights coming from?

Hhoope, you seem to have mistaken what I wrote. If I were to insinuate that the OP felt they were entitled to a status match, I would have specifically written: "... but what makes you think you're entitled to one?" I was simply asking why the OP would even ask if MR matches airline status. I mean obviously, it would be nice if being MR Plat. or a Centurion card holder involved my also being the highest levels in other rewards programs, but I wouldn't find that fair to the people who actually meet the criteria of the level they hold.

Anyways, I believe the Concierge answered this in a previous thread and the answer was no, that generally speaking Marriott does not match status from other programs, but will occasionally offer a status challenge requiring fewer nights than it might normally take to reach the desired status.
