Lifetime points are missing from the profile section of the website and show as 0 in the Marriott mobile app. However, you may be able to use the work-around referenced in this blog post to see your current Lifetime Points.
You can still view your lifetime points online with the following steps:
If you call Marriott they can also tell you your lifetime points balance.

To check lifetime balances: (HT to txpenny)
1. Click "Night Detail".
2. Click "Learn More" (under the night total)
3. Click "Marriott Rewards Overview". At this point you're probably no longer logged in (because you've been thrown to an older version of the Marriott website), so log in again.
4. Click "Nights" under your current year's nights. -> The detail you're expecting showing LT nights and points will show up like before.
Lifetime Silver Elite:
250 qualified nights
1.2 million points
Lifetime Gold Elite
500 qualified nights
1.6 million points
Lifetime Platinum Elite
750 qualified nights
2.0 million points
To check your point and night balance, log into your account and click My Account > Account Overview > Nights.
"Elite Lifetime Status is determined by your total qualified nights stayed and points earned throughout the course of your membership – including your paid nights, Elite rollover nights, meeting nights and the nights and points earned on your Marriott Rewards Credit Card."
Points used by members to buyback their previously attained Elite level will be permanently deducted from their Lifetime point balance.
If an elite's point level drops below that required for the level attained, they will drop down to the next Lifetime level until points are accumulated to get them back to the next level.
Lifetime points in addition to nights now display on your Marriott Rewards account. When logged in, click on "Nights" (the blue link below the number representing your current year nights). You'll see the detail of what comprises your current year nights as well as your Lifetime Status nights.

Some MVCI properties have different rules concerning trading for points and allow trading for points every year.

correct....where I own I'm allowed to trade for points yearly however I am aware of a few properties in MCO that only allow trading every other year (note: I havent found a reason for me to personally trade for points yet)

Points is definitely going to be the challenge for me. I've got 428 nights but only 386,000 points. Most of my nights were accumulated with long-term, low-rate stays at Residence Inn's. Without a different job, I don't see myself making it to 800 nights for gold (and anyone with a pulse can get silver, so lifetime silver status isn't really worth much). But if I do, I'll have to look into accumulating some points through some other means.

I e-emailed asking for my lifetime accumulations. I've been a member since 2002 (late starter in this). Here's the response:

It looks like my points are inline with the number of nights in order to reach lifetime platinum. FWIW, I get a lot of points through my MR Visa; 130K in the last year. That helps offset the fact that I don't have a ton of full service stays. (The Marriott San Antonio Plaza was a free night because of my MR Visa).
With the double credits this year, I should have accumulated/carryover 450 or so creditable lifetime nights, far better than I was expecting.

So got my info in less the 24.
Only have 2,650,000 points and this is only my 12th year so should be able to get it easily in the next few years.
No that Time Share nights could, will add another 28 nights a year.

I just got an email today (10/31/09), in which I have:
12 years as a member, 702 lifetime Elite nights, and 2,495,057 total points accumulated. (YTD 2009: 140 nights.)
But I have my email saved from 11/24/08, where I had:
11 years as a member, 692 lifetime Elite nights, and 1,997,886 total points accumulated.
So obviously, the lifetime nights counter is screwy somehow, and the above quoted post seems to indicate a similar issue. I thought I remembered reading somewhere that they update the nights at the beginning of each year, but that doesn't answer the above discrepancy either.
Are the nights posted in one clump on some fixed date each year maybe?

I may be wrong, but my understanding is that Marriott's "lifetime" tracking system only updates information once a year. Therefore, someone has to manually add in any nights and points for the current year.
If that is true, it could be that in some instances, someone forgot to add in the current year totals to what the "lifetime" totals showed.

Now that answer might be it. If the person sometimes remembers to add in the current year's nights manually when answering an inquiry email, and sometimes doesn't, that would explain it. I'll request another one mid-January and see if it bumps up the 2009 total in one chunk. thx ^

The points seem to be accurate but, as you noted, nights seem to be a bit goofy.

Interesting, my Dad has lifetime platinum but I never knew the requirements. Until this thread I've only been hunting lifetime status on United.
Now I have a renewed interest in a lifetime hotel status. Called and got my stats:
