Getting proper night credit after problem?

I had a host of problems recently with a one night stay at a Fairfield. After my stay I sent an e-mail to customer care detailing my problems. As a result I got offered a refund to my credit card of my $ spent. Please note out of loyalty to Marriott I didn't just leave the hotel for another brand. I left the hotel for another Marriott hotel!

However now I find out I lost the night credit for my bad stay since they are going to refund me the # swpent. This night credit is critical to my re-qualifying for Platinum. I suffered through this night at this hotel. Is it wrong to be given the 1 night credit (which is free to Marriott)?

It looks like Marriott is trying to compensate you for the problems you received. If you aren't paying for the night, then you shouldn't receive the night credit. So, it boils down to one or the other. Which is more important, the night credit or getting the night free?

You could always ask for bonus points instead of getting the night free. That is a common approach by a number of persons here. That way you receive your night and get more points in the deal to compensate your for the problems.

If you left the hotel for another Marriott hotel, you'll get the night credit from the second hotel, won't you?

I left the hotel after the first night. I got proper credit for the rest of the nights from the other hotel.

My issue is a night credit is suppose to be for a night stayed. It isn't my fault there was issues there. It's like being walked. It's not the guest's fault, but he still receives credit.

I could of had easily went to SPG, Priceline, or Hyatt. I chose Marriott. I slept a night there. A credit should be received.

A night credit is not given for a night stayed all the time. If your room was paid for through a third-party wholesale travel agency or paid for on a masterbill, you wouldn't get night credit even though you stayed the night. So why does Marriott owe you night credit if they refund your room charges? Why not ask for points instead as others have mentioned?

Besides, with you being apparently so close to retaining your Platinum status, what makes you think Marriott won't automatically renew it? There has been anecdotal evidence that they do that occasionally.

Did this night post to your MR account yet? I have had this happen and when a hotel reimbursed me for a bad stay they never eliminated the night credit. I am not sure if they will go to the hassle to remove it since I would guess the points don't cost that much and why upset you more if you were already disappointed.

Points (for what I originally paid) or night credit didn't post. I don't need the points credit nor asked for them. I didn't ask for the refund (but happy they gave it). My only gripe is a night credit is something that's costless to them and I did stay that night.

Being I'm so close rather then having them try to make an exception later, I rather EARN platinum.

I fully understand MR not giving either night credit or pts if in fact you ended up not paying for the night. I had this problem a # of yrs ago with Hilton, so I went back the next day and told the GM I dont feel good about not paying anything lets say we go 50-50 on it, it took me a good few mins to convince her to charge Me for 1/2 of the bill rather then Nothing at All.

Alot of the time if the Hotel is the one that decides not to charge you, they usually forget about that you are a MR member and dont remove the Credit, so it goe sthru. When you deal with Corp it almost gets removed 100% of the time.

Now to the good news, unknown to you MR probably went ahead and requalified you for Plat even at 74. I was at 73 last Fri, I had a Sat & Sun stay so that meant 75 for the yr. When I called on Weds not seeing the credit for my last 2 stays, MR told me no worry they went ahead and made me Plat even being 2 short, last week yet.

If by chance they didnt give you Plat, then 1 night in Jan should do the trick. But simply call MR to see whats what, you cant know any of this from the Website
