Munich Marriotts

Hints, tips, reviews?

I'm heading over for a few days of R&R&Beer in February. I typed in XML and got a rate of 76 Euros for the Ren and 89 for the Marriott which seem pretty fair. Thoughts?

Have an IBM or Philips ID ready... :D

For the XML code? I've never been asked for any sort of ID for it... The rate rules state to have an ID ready but don't mention any company.

This thread is quite old, but I think that the info is still valid:

I stayed at the Ren 18 months ago, and was upgraded to a suite. This property has enough suites that mid tier members sometimes get this upgrade as well. I was well content with the hotel.

Keep checking PKG rates on both the Renaissance and the Marriott in Munich. They sometimes open up something, particularly on weekends and holidays.

For example, I had reservations at the Renaissance for 22 - 26 December at a very low rate of € 85 with breakfast, and checked today to find a new Christmas rate, also with breakfast, of € 69! I swapped out immediately, of course.

We've stayed at both properties and they are fine. They are a block or two apart in the Schwabing district of North Munich...walking distance to the U-Bahn (the Ren is the closer of the two). Lots of restaurants within a 15 min walk (over by the Leopoldstrasse). Both have onsite parking garages if you are driving. Great breakfast at either property...love that weisswurst! Can vouch for the comment on suites at the Ren...was always upgraded as a Gold, even on the cheap rates available at year-end. IMHO the Marriott is a slightly nicer property, but the upgrade likelihood at the Ren, combined with lower rates, would make it my choice.

Do you think it's worth saving the (lot of) extra money to stay 2 miles outside of downtown? I don't mind the trains, but lord knows how much I'll have at Hofbrauhaus.

I stayed at the Renaissance two years ago on a Priceline bid of US$50/night + taxes/fees. Recent posts on biddingfortravel.com show winning bids of US$65-$75/night at both the Ren and the Marriott.

Consider the Courtyard

I just stayed there last week and it has a perfect location, two blocks from the Hbf and a short walk to Marienplatz and Hofbrauhaus. Nice new property as well.

Leave the Hofbräuhaus reasonably sober and use the U-Bahn (U3/U6) to "Münchner Freiheit". Enjoy bar-hopping there and use a taxi to get to the Marriott/Renaissance.

Have fun in Munich !
