Don't get me wrong, I think that Marriott is great, but I still think that there are things that could be done better, and taxes and fees, in whatever form they take, could be done better. When I make a reservation on the telephone with Avis, they always tell me what the daily or weekly rate is, as well as what the total cost will be, including everything, before the confirmation number is generated. The airlines which show all taxes and fees on their websites before clicking on the purchase button are less common, such as United, not the standard. I believe that is how it should be with Marriott also.
You're losing your focus on the real issue. The phone disclosure protocol is fine. The bottom line is that most people don't want all of that read to them every time they call in, it's always available if you ask and it is sent to you automatically within seconds. I think the vast majority of people are satisfied with Marriott on this point.
Get your anger back to the practices that deserve it like this horrible room service tip issue, deceptive resort fees and the like.

$2.25 “tray fee.”
Tell them to hold the tray and just send the stuff that goes on top of the tray.

I would think that "tray charge" is their jargon for "delivery fee" but I agree that the trays should be taken or destroyed to teach them a lession.

No, evidently they charge a room service fee of $2.00 besides!
