Marriott Suites - no C Lounge - Breakfast Coupons?
Staying at a AZ Marriott Suites next week. As far as I can tell there is no Concierge Lounge. Are breakfast coupons made available during the week for Platinum members? I know this would be the case for a "regular Marriott" but does a Marriott Suites fall under the "For Marriott hotels without a Concierge/Executive Club Lounge, we invite you to enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast on your weekday stays, Monday-Friday."
Thanks |
AFAIK, they should follow the FS rules just like any other would. I do know that the Marriott Suites close to IAD also doesn't have a CL, but does provide breakfast for elites. Actually, I just checked the "Concierge Lounges Open On Weekends" sticky thread and there are quite a few Marriott Suites that don't have CLs. They all seem to provide breakfast. Some use coupons. Some don't.

If you are referencing the Suites in Scottsdale I have stayed there on a number of occasions, and they do provide breakfast in the lobby restaurant. It's a nice hotel, and good breakfast....you'll enjoy it.

hhoope01 - thanks. That's what I figured but it's been about 10 years since I last stayed in a Marriott Suites.
Bruce - yep it's the Scottsdale Suites. Looking forward to it. |
I've never stayed at a Marriott Suites that has a CL, and I've never been in one that didn't give plats a comp breakfast....at least on weekdays.
Usually, its a pretty fair bargain. You might miss out on drinks/snacks in the evening....but you typically wind up with a better breakfast than you'd get in a CL. Enjoy! |

Does that mean you've stayed in one that did not comp breakfast on weekends, or that you've not stayed on weekends?
I phrased my post the way I did because my understanding is the TOS of the plat benefit obligate the hotels to provide the breakfast benefit only on weekdays. So...I suppose there may be at least a couple of Suites properties that offer the brekkie during the week but not on weekends. However, as a practical matter, we all know that most of the hotels go ahead and offer the breakfast benefit on weekends as well....although a little "reasoning" with the manager on duty can sometimes be required. |
Yes...I always got breakfast coupons at the various Suites I have stayed at.

Dulles Marriott Suites
I can confirm this property gives a "continental" breakfast as an elite amenity including on weekends. I had a stamp in my key folio when i checked in that stated I was entitled and all I had to do to collect was sign my room number on the check when it came. The full buffet was available for an extra $2 from what I was told however I just got the standard fruit/cereal/pastries every day.
All that ever showed on my final bill was any tip amount I left. --DD73 |
For plats at the Scottsdale Marriott Suites Old Town you get a full free breakfast buffet or (and this is unique as far as I can tell--I've never seen it at ANY other property) you can order anything you want off of the room service breakfast menu as well. Given that I often depart early in the morning and room service is available 30 minutes before the restaurant opens, I've taken advantage of that perk quite a few times.

Huh, Dulles/IAD Marriott suites never offered any breakfast options for me as a Platinum.
|
Did you ask them? Granted they should have notified you at check-in, but that doesn't always happen. It rarely hurts to ask about CL access or the lack of one during check-in. That way you can find out how they are providing the Gold/Plats breakfast.
|
The Washington Dulles Marriott Suites does not provide coupons, but they will give platinum and gold members a free continental breakfast each day (tip excluded), with a full breakfast costing a few dollars more. They should have given your account a credit as a platinum, if you ate breakfast in the restaurant.

Goings on in Scottsdale!

A little piece of trivia, Scottsdale Suites is owned by Richard Marriott's (Bill Marriott's younger brother) Company, Host Hotels & Resorts, which was Host Marriott Corporation (as Host formerly was known) and was formed in October 1993 when Marriott Corporation split its operations into two separate and distinct companies. Marriott Corporation became Host Marriott Corporation, which retained ownership of 24 full service hotels, 102 limited service hotels, 14 senior living communities and the Host Marriott Operating Group, an entity that provided food, beverage and merchandise in airports and toll roads. (Food, beverage, merchandise, and senior living were later split off into a third company.) The 1993 split also produced a separate company, Marriott International, Inc., which was formed to manage and operate various brands of Marriott hotels. This is the Marriott International that we all know and love today, the very one which administers our very own Marriott Rewards! I am telling you this piece of trivia, because besides Scottsdale Suites being a beautiful hotel, it would probably be a bit embarrassing if they did not follow the rules and offer qualified elites breakfast due to not having a CL, don't you think? Up the road, the Renaissance Scottsdale Resort is very different, and NOT owned by brother Richard's company. This hotel used to be called Cottonwoods Resort, and is an all "casita" type hotel, very similar to the nearby Camelback Inn, a JW Marriott Resort, though not quite as upscale. THe reason that I mention this hotel is that even though it is a "resort" property, they are very nice to Plats (I do not know if they extend this treatment to Golds), and offer complimentary breakfast in their MORIAH restaurant. Their breakfasts are not buffet style, but all cooked to order, and always excellent! Try the Brioche French Toast, it is out of this world delicious! Not only that, but if you are coming in from a different time zone and your sleeping is all screwy, and you want to wander in for a late breakfast, they will make you breakfast at almost any time you wish. Just write PLATINUM on the bill, and all will be taken care of (weekdays only). I have eaten breakfast there as late as 1 PM, and they have served me cheerfully! I recommend this hotel highly. Also, ask for their casitas with the private hot tubs on the fenced patios, this is the upgrade from their standard room, and the best room that they have in my opinion. There is a larger room, but the floorplan is a bit screwy. Whichever hotel you choose, and both are highly recommendable, ENJOY!! :D ^ |
Thanks for the history lesson, USirritated! I love learning little tidbits like that. Given the ownership of the Scottsdale Marriott Suites, I'm surprised they've let it get so dreary in decor. Even the Hyatt Place across the street looks like a bustling, modern hotel in comparison.
I have a funny story which explains why I don't stay at the Renaissance Scottsdale Resort anymore (not that I never world, but it is my bottom choice in Phoenix). Several years ago my wife and I stayed there over a holiday weekend. As a platinum I was indeed treated very well, including the upgrade to a full casita with outdoor hot tub and complimentary breakfast. Being a young couple, we were eager to hit some dance clubs and figured Tempe (home of the University of Arizona) would be the place to go. We went to the concierge desk and asked for recommendations of places to go for dinner and then dancing in Tempe. The concierge, a stereotypically Scottsdale woman (dressed, surgically altered, and made up to look a lot younger than she obviously was) said she really couldn't help us. We persisted, and finally she said in a perfectly snooty voice, "Well, most of OUR guests don't go to TEMPE," even turning up her nose at the name of the nearby suburb. We couldn't help but giggle as we walked away from the concierge desk. We had a great time in Tempe, by the way, finding things on our own... |
