Darüber hinaus in Toronto, St. Lucia, Dublin und den Bahamas. Stand: 11. April 2007 Yes, I know it is in German and if you can find it in English, be my guest and post it, but it is pretty easily deciphered in any event. I found it when up popped the CY Pilsen (Pilzen) in Czech while searching on Marriott.com -- itself a very welcome development for it will make it much easier to reach in 1 day and back the Medieval jewel of a city, Ceske Krumilov, in Eastern Bohemia. Now Marriott will have a number of properties near that border with Germany (Renn Chemnitz and CY Regensburg). Also exciting is the prospect of an also soon to open Renaissance resort on the island of St. Croix in the USVI. Pictures of the area on Tripadvisor indicate a very beautiful and secluded Carambola resort, apparently quite unlike the existing property on St. Thomas. Enjoy! NJ :) |
Thanks for the info, especially re the Renaissance St. Croix and Ritz Carltons in St. Lucia and the Bahamas.
I'm still waiting for Marriott to start taking reservations for the new Fiji location. I noticed the new Courtyard in Cancun a few days ago....some very reasonable rates (well under $100). |
Hi all,
While it is good to see more Marriott family hotels being announced, I can't help noticing the big missing piece still ... Africa (in particular South Africa). If anyone from Marriott is listening ... how about opening some hotels in Cape Town, Jo'burg, Pretoria, Addis Ababa, Dakar, ... Cheers, GenevaFlyer |

Going to have to wait some time still, I am afraid. Don't know if you noticed it or not, but Fiji was buried for some uknown reason under the China properties -- not expected to open until some time in 2009. :( I believe that Hilton's property may open sooner, however. :) |
New Marriott in Nanning
Thanks for posting.
Was aware of similar information on MR web site. Surprised to note that MR is opening a hotel in Nanning, Changxi (a rather remote region of China). Plan to travel there next year. If opens then, will definitely stay there. |

i can't believe carambola in st. croix is going to become a Ren...
thanks to the OP for this update... |
Carambola's home page (not yet in the marriott.com domain) is already sporting the Renaissance logo.
|
a little info was requested by the OP on carambola, so...
i have been to St. Croix a couple of times, though never stayed at Carambola (though been driving through a couple of times.) Carambola has always been the most expensive and secluded area on st. croix. tickets to USVI are pretty cheap year round. the place has its own beach and from what i heard from the locals, all the rooms are very nice. if you look on the site's webpage, you will see a big mountain that overlooks the place. there is a mountain road up there (i suggest renting a jeep wrangler from any of the major chains at the airport) and it has one of the greatest views with carambola below and the whole island in the distance. if you do rent a vehicle, please note that they are american style cars but drive on the english side (ie your passengers pass each other rather than the drivers). simple rule: 'tight lefts, wide rights.) the island can be a bit sketchy in the two towns, but if you aren't falling down drunk, you shouldn't have any problems. there is a casino on the island if you like to gamble, you can drink alcohol prettymuch anywhere you go, including walking on the streets. carambola has the nicest golf on the island, but if you are a hacker like me, you can find some cheap ones too. i wish i could really tell you more about the actual Carambola, but again, i never stayed there because it really was luxurious. i will say though, if you are looking for entertainment and nightlife, i would suggest St. Thomas. but if you want a chill time, great outdoors, etc...st. croix is your way to go. PS...they make a rum called Cruzan on the island (really good but cheap) and they make a 20yr old sipping rum for dirt cheap too. there is a beer (non-alcoholic) drinking pig in the rainforest and great diving. the deepest drop in the ocean closest to land in all the world is found off st. croix. and it is the most eastern point in the united states. (i would suggest packing a backpack and hoofing it down to the actual rocky coast than staying up at the 'tourist photo area'... hopefully this helps... |
Great update. Thanks for posting. Some of these are already open. I'm wondering if the Ren Sports Club in LA is going to be modled after the one in Northern California (I'm drawing a blank on the name of the SF suburb in the East Bay).
I'm personally looking forward to the opening of the Spa and Resort in Muskoka, Canada. A very beautiful spot about two hours north of Toronto. |
Cyberdad, I believe you are referring to the Renaissance Sport Club in Walnut Creek. That property is the prototype in a series of hotels that Marriott is seeking to develop to target the fitness conscious guest. I recall reading on the Marriott website here that they want to develop such properties, mainly in urban markets with a high average income, which can draw in locals to join the hotel's gym as members.
