Anyone ever received a "This is a test" email
 

Just got a bizarre email. It went to my junk email box, it was from "Marriott Hotels" Marriott Hotels [[email protected]]

The subject says "Marriott Hotels Boston:Rates from $89"

When I open it, it says "This is a test"

I'm doubting that it really came from marriott, anyone ever received something like this?

I got it too, although subject is different. It says "Marriott Hotels Washington, DC:Escape! Family Time Package with Free Kids' Meals".

FWIW, I believe it did come from Marriott, as if you look at the full header, you'll see the same servers that Marriott uses sending eBreaks e-mails.

Just got it - and I opened it because I am going to Boston in two weeks...sigh - now who knows what will happen because (unlike you) I was not lucky enough for it to go to my junk box - it came straight through on my "real" one! Will be interested to see what others say - as I am 99% certain this was NOT Marriott! :(

I got the Boston one myself, and believe it was from Marriott, just sent too early.

That's also the one I got, maybe because I live in DC. :rolleyes:

Well, there is a hidden message, and it has a legitimate Marriott.com link as a Featured Deal. (See below in the encoding. Someone did a lousy job of putting this together.) Another slight problem is that it does not come up in a general search on Featured Deals under Boston or MA, so someone needs to add a link into that search, even if this is a very short sale.

The key info (with HTML encoding of = and 20 and 3D removed) is: "To reserve your room book by June 4, 2007. Offer valid through September 3, 2007. To Book online, go to http://marriott.com/specials/mesOffe...splayLink=true and quote promotional code M11.
The above link DOES work. You will see the offer.
I can get it to work in Burlington MA (the $89 site) for June 30-July 1, with

The rate rules appear to limit the days of the week. Under "modifications", it states:
* Your current rate may be available if your modified reservation still includes:
* An arrival on Thursday Or Friday Or Saturday.
* Your current rate may be available if your modified reservation still includes:
* An overnight stay on Friday Or Saturday Or Sunday.
It is valid at the 7 Marriott hotels in:
* Boston (Copley Place)
* Cambridge
* Boston (Long Wharf)
* Burlington
* Quincy
* Newton
* Peabody


You have to right click, Properties, Options for your email, and view the full internet header and message source code.

I have also sent a copy of this header and code to the Marriott and Globix abuse desk, and Digital Impact tech support to clarify, and ask them to add the link to the Featured Deals database on the Marriott site. Note that the IP address in the header as well as the m0.net and delivery.net domains are all controlled by and registered to Digital Impact of San Mateo CA. All of this checks out as legitimate. The delivery.net links for marriott do go to the Marriott home page. The problem appears to be in the coding of the final "open.delivery.net" link at the bottom... That one fails.

Just got an email from Marriott ... subject "We sent you an email in error, we're sorry."

Inside it says
"We recently sent you an email for Marriott hotels in Boston that did not include enough information for you to reserve your special offer. We are sending this email again along with our sincere apologies and hope that you will take advantage of the great summer specials we are now offering."

Then below it had the data that the original one should have contained.
