Needing to Perpetually Log In at Marriott's web site.
It's really aggravating that Marriott's site requires you to keep signing in to do account things even when it still says "sign out" above.
I understand that they don't want strangers making reservations on public terminals where rewards members forgot to log out. But there's got to be a better way to do this.... |
I know what you mean. It says "Sign out" which makes you think that you are signed in, but you really aren't and have to sign in again.
Once you sign in, I have never been asked to sign again during the same session. I think the problem is the false indication that you are signed in, not the fact that they ask you to sign in before you can do stuff. |

yes, but it's worse than that. You think you're signed in, go thru the search/reserve, then get the guest info page....and nothing's filled in. Most people probably just fill it all in fresh. But the "hip" thing to do (insofar as aggravation is "hip") is to go back to log on, repeat search and reserve. so aggravating. |

Particularly when I go from one function to another; like from checking current reservations to making new reservations or from checking my Rewards account to making reservations. I sign in. I check and fool around with current reservations, I then go to make a new reservation and half way through the process I find I'm no longer signed in. Quite aggravating because it's an obvious fault in the software. |
I tried to book a rate that was available when I thought I was still logged in. I got to the page that has all the guest information and lo and behold it was blank. Well instead of me just filling out the information I sign out and then sign back in only to find that the rate was gone. I booked at the higher rate and I was able to talk the front desk into the lower rate, however, I was lucky on that one.

You folks DO know that when you get to that page with all the blank personal info fields, you can just click the link on the right side of the page that says "Registered User? Click to fill in all fields..." or something like that. You enter your username and password and it brings you right back to the reservation in progress.

Given that when I'm signed in, there is access to my CC information, address, let alone my points balance, I can live with the annoyance if it currently the best means of protection. I've had public computers remember my log in name, even after I made sure I didn't check anything to cause it to occur.
I agree with you, its a pain in the tush, but weighing the risk versus benefits, at this time, I can live with the little annoyance if it means better protection. |

I don't think it's better protection. I think it's a software glitch. |
The way to do what they're trying to do and protect what they're trying to protect is to follow the amazon model. Amazon, too, continues to recognize your log-on, but when it needs heightened security, it intercepts and asks for password confirmation...then puts you right back where you were before.
Indicating to a customer that they're logged in (via the "sign out" option at top of window), making them go thru lots of searching to find the right hotel and rate, then giving them a huge number of blank fields that ought to be filled in for them - without ANY explanation - is just idiotic, IMO. |
The way web pages work, if your session times out due to inactivity, of course it still says Sign Out in the left hand upper corner.
That is because that was the state of affairs when the page was last retrieved from the server, but then later the server thinks you've been gone for too long and invalidates your last login. Your web page on your computer doesn't change as a result of the server's decision. Try clicking on the refresh button of your browser (or F5 in IE) to see what happens after you've had a period of inactivity. That should refresh the logged-in indications on your web page. (With an emphasis on should.) |
