Free Internet in ALL Courtyards?
 

Hopefully someone can settle an argument a co-worker and I are having. Specifically, is internet access free in ALL Courtyards?

I say yes. I spend on averate 120 nights/year in hotels, the vast majority of which are Courtyards. I have never paid for internet access. She says that she is staying in one in Atlanta where you have to pay. I say she's wrong... :)

Does anyone know?

I've not seen one that didn't offer it. But here's what the Courtyard website says, "FREE high-speed Internet access at participating Courtyard hotel."

Out of curiousity, you might want to ask her which Courtyard in Atlanta. The Marriott website lists a total of 18 Courtyards in the Atlanta area, and 18 Courtyards with free internet. Sounds like they all have free internet.

I was recently looking at taking a little London trip, and noticed that most of the Courtyards there don't specify "free" internet access. So I'm guessing that they will charge you for it (but since I haven't stayed at one, I could be wrong.)

In fact, I decided to check Courtyards in other parts of the world. And it seems that a number of them don't say "free" internet access. So I guess outside of the US, the free internet access may be more of a novelty than a norm.

I've yet to pay for high speed web at a U.S. or Canada CY. I know we've all complained about high telecommunication charges in Europe, and I've little doubt these are huge profit centers. But its also my understanding that some of the rules (and costs) pertaining to web, phone, etc. are different across the pond.

Free internet is on the Courtyard TV adds, I have never paid for it at a Courtyard.

Same here. I think its free at all US CYs.

I am staring at the laminated card on my Courtyard desk here in Atlanta as I write this and I quote "Get connected for free -- here and at every Courtyard location"

Completely free - at least all US & Canada hotels.

Is your friend on the CY network or is she on a different network that she may be picking up? Not all CY's have wireless access - some only have wired access...

guest room access is completely free, at one time (not sure if it's still the same) CY's were allowed to charge in the lobby & restaurant

I was in Detroit last week and the Courtyard offered free Internet with download speed limits of around 300 or 400Kbps. You could pay $8.95 to get much faster speeds.

Is this common? Is free high speed Internet becoming just free Internet access?

The next idea is to limit the free television to black and white; extra for color.

Actually, the Philadelphia Downtown Courtyard also has "free internet up to 384k, optional faster internet (1.5mbps) is available for a fee."

I don't blame them for doing this. 384k is faster than dial-up and keeps people from downloading P2P stuff all night long while they sleep.

That depends on whether "all Courtyards" includes those outside of NA or not.
