Account Activity and Expiration
I know Marriott gives you 2 years for "account activity" before it cancels your account per the TOS. Does this mean a stay once every 2 years or is it like Skymiles where any account activity counts to keep your account active? I have 6 months yet but I've been on a dry spell for work travel.
It would be a good idea if Marriott, like Skymiles, would post an expiration date in its e-statements or online check-in because I haven't seen one. |
Pretty much anything qualifies as "activity". Activity could be anything from staying at a Marriott, using the Marriott Rewards Visa card, or updating your mailing address or telephone number.
And honestly, I've seen accounts inactive for longer than the two years and they're still open. |
I started staying in Marriott's 18 months ago after a long absense, probably about a decade of inactivity. I was prepared to open a new account, but I gave them my name, and they were able to find my old account, with a couple of thousand non-expired points in it.
(Do not try this with Hilton) |
I don't think marriott pts will be expired even after a few years

If you have a lot of points. You might rather be safe than sorry if Marriott decides to close your MR account after 2 years of inactivity, this is what the agreement indicates. Hit the Marriott Rewards Mall for a small purchase and it will count as activity on your account and guarantee it stays active.
