Marriott Shenyang - real or fake?
I'm going to Shenyang China next week. Expedia offered to book me at a "Marriott" but no such hotel is listed on Marriott.com. What gives? Is this a fake Marriott or is there a problem with Marriott.com? (or a problem with my use of Marriott.com??)

that Marriott has been discontinued, management contract was expired already

Yes, it was deflagged in May; Expedia must not have updated its links to marriott.com...

Sorry to bump a thread, but this hotel still has Marriott logos throughout, as well as Marriott style room amenities. Plus, the picture of Bill and son still hangs in the lobby. If it is no longer a true Marriott property, why are they still allowed to display these trademarked items?
I thought I would be receiving credit for my stays here. This now seems to not be the case. This is extremely deceptive if this is true. |

Well you can get pirated DVD's and CD's, fake watches and polo shirts all over china... maybe now you can stay at a pirated hotel!
Question: I think my chances are pretty good of getting credit for my stays here due to the fact that there is nothing to tell me this ISN'T a Marriott property. I had a total of 3 nights here, and since my company has had me stay at a lot of SPG properties during my last few months here, my MegaBonus is in jeopardy. What does everyone else think? Will Marriott credit me the stays? |
Good luck trying, but if it isn't a Marriott hotel any longer, then I doubt Marriott will give you the stay credit or points (even if the hotel is trying to make you think they are still a Marriott hotel.)

Absolutely! I do a lot of work with KPMG and we found out that there was a "fake" KPMG office in Shenzhen (had the logos, stationary, etc) and get this--it had more business than the "real" KPMG office in Shenzhen.
I've seen the usual (CDs, DVDs, software, hardware, mp3 players, appliances, clothing, etc..) but I'd have to say that the Marriott and KPMG examples take the cake. |
I can add through personal experience that the "Sheraton" that all the reporters stay in at Baghdad hasn't paid thier commission to Sheraton in 20 years! What's Sheraton gonna do about it? Welcome to the real world.
