Free breakfast for Golds at Courtyards?

My husband just got comped to Marriot gold from Hilton Diamond. In the website it says that golds get complimentary breakfast "At Marriott hotels, JW Marriott hotels or Renaissance hotels", what about Courtyards?

In general the answer is no. Courtyards do not have to provide breakfast for any level elite (including Platinum and above.) The referenced text you quote states "Marriott Hotels & Resorts" and that refers to Full Service Marriott hotels, and to add a little more confusion to the fire, it does NOT include Resorts (go figure.)

With that said, it probably couldn't hurt to ask when checking in about complementary breakfast coupons. Just don't expect them to be provided.

I decided to actually look around the website and I guess Marriott has actually dropped the "Resort" text from the Gold elite benefits description. Unfortunately, it still shows up on the "condensed" benefits chart on the main Members Benefits webpage. But it looks like they are slowly cleaning up the text.

Courtyards are not included. Some Courtyards will provide a free breakfast to platinum or gold members if asked. However, they are not required to.

The main benefit for gold and platinum members at Courtyards is free local calls and faxes of up to 15 pages a day.

This is my 1st year of making platinum and have stayed about 10 nights in CY's since making status. In each case, I have asked the front desk if they give free breakfast vouchers to plats and have batted about 75% thus far. I suspect gold members would be treated similarly as long as you are very polite when checking in.

I think its important to point out that the Courtyards typically don't offer the free breakfast. As has been said, its not a normal benefit for elites. Usually, they won't offer it without you having to ask first. But they also tend to be very obliging if you ask politely...especially if you give them a reason why they should. (Its often what they offer if there's some minor problem with your room...poor TV reception, for example).

Personally, although I find the breakfast to usually be very good, I don't often partake. I either check out before the restaurant is open, don't have time for a sit-down breakfast, or have a breakfast meeting elsewhere. I have to confess a "grab and go" in the CL of a full-serve property, or at a Fairfield is more my speed.
