In defense of Wailea Marriott--rooms have recently been upgraded--just be sure you are getting a refurbished room since I am not sure of renovations are complete.
We stayed at Wailea Marriott last week. Rooms are redone and are very nice. However, nothing else is completed. Couldn't hear construction noise at all. If you're big into hotel amenities and hotel restaurants, you'll be dissapointed until renovations are complete. However, If you don't plan on shopping or eating at the hotel much and walking 5 minutes to a beach (either towards Renaissance or the opposite way towards Grand Wailea, Four Seasons, etc..), this property can't be beat IMHO. We paid for an ocean view and got upgraded to ocean front and were literally 50 feed from the ocean. |

Pools have not been touched. Shops are all closed (makeshift sundry shop is open) 1/4 of parking garage is full of inventory for room remodels that are still to be completed I read somewhere they're having problems getting permits from Maui County to work on the pools but I have no idea if that's true or not. |
