If you do a search, you'll find a topic I started on this hotel some time back. I was extremely disappointed with the property...rooms were small (with fairly trendy furnishings), very poor soundproofing, hot water not very hot, restaurant was a little too snooty for our tastes, phone calls to the front desk would ring for several minutes before we'd give up and hang up. Etc. Management was completely unresponsive to several letters I wrote. Location was okay, short walk to French Quarter.

We had a very pleasant stay there. But be aware that room size can vary considerably. Room numbers ending is "18" are odd shaped and rather small. We reserved a concierge level room and they put us in a regular room without saying a word. I went back down to the front desk and complained and they said all conceriege level rooms were full. I demanded a rate reduction and they did reduce it $50 a night. No apology. Room furnishings and bathrooms were very nice. We had no problems with hot water as someone elese had reported. The restaurant (Rene) was truly outstanding and we had perfect service there. This restaurant has garned some rave reviews on AOL. The pool was average size for a hotel; keep in mind it is a hotel, not a resort. Great location. We would definitelky go back but would be very picky about rooms.

New Orleans - Marriott or Renaissance?

ok...I have a choice between the Marriott property on Canal or the Pere Marquette on Common Street. Two night package (similarly priced) with breakfast.

Specifically, trying to impress the wife by staying near the Quarter (instead of with relatives in Metairie) so looking for the best quality property within a safe walking distance of the French Quarter. Any comments would be appreciated.

I've read the past comments but looking for a definitive opinion on which location to choose. Thanks!!

I have stayed at the Marriott in nola many times, and have been very impressed by the service and room conditions. Real easy walk to Bourbon street. Make sure you take her to ACME Oysterbar - those little guys work better than any viagra.

I like the Marriott--bigger rooms than the Renaissance. The Marriott has two towers one overlooks the French Quarter and the other overlooks the river. Very close to Bourbon street and the associated insanity. Also, good C-lounge, business center, and top floor restaurant with a view.

Stayed at the Pere Marquette. Very stylish hotel with nice sertice and a truly outstanding restaurant. Very close to the French Quarter (1 block). However, our room was rather small and had a limited view.
It is a small, botique type hotel whereas the Marriott is a convention style hotel.

Courtyard New Orleans Downtown: Reviews?

Has anyone here ever stayed at the CY in downtown New Orleans on St. Charles Street? We are visiting NO about two weeks before Mardi Gras, but hotel rates are already sky-high. We're booked at this hotel for $150/night - other Marriotts are even higher.

Is this is a nice, clean Courtyard? Is it close to the French Quarter?

We need 2 double beds (and booked specifically this room type), so we don't want to gamble with Priceline. I have MR Gold status, so hopefully they will notice and give us a decent room...

I have not stayed at this CY, but I have seen it from the downtown NO Marriott, so yes it is very close (walking or staggering distance) to the French Quarter.

The wife and I have stayed there a number of times and have been pleased each time. It is very close to the French Quarter, not too far from the Riverwalk, has a restaurant for a buffet breakfast, and has a small fitness room and hot tub.

The best room we had was on the 2nd floor on the outside with a balcony. It was nice to be able to sit outside and enjoy the day or evening. See if you can get one of those or upgraded to one of those. We always go on points, but 2 out of 3 times we had the balcony room without asking.

All in all - we will always stay at the Courtyard on St. Charles... close and convenient to all ... IMHO.

Just got back from a four-night stay at this hotel. Really liked the location, a block away from the western edge of the French Quarter, and right on the St. Charles streetcar line which we used a lot. The staff was not as customer-friendly as we expect Marriott employees to be. They failed to give us a message that had been left at the desk before we arrived. We checked in around 7pm, and were told that they did not have any no-smoking rooms with a king-size bed available. The desk clerk assured us that they would be able to move us into such a room the next day. He, of course, was not on duty the next afternoon when we asked if they had found us another room, and the woman who was on the desk told us that the only one she had was very small and had no window. We expressed our displeasure, and she asked us to give her 10 minutes to see what she could do. 10 minutes later she called to say that a king-size, no smoking room (with two windows) was now available, and we made the switch.

I am trying to book rooms using X14 certs in New Orleans. Anyone got any reviews of the Courtyard or SpringHill near the convention center?

I stayed at the SHS NOLA CC a year ago and enjoyed it; typical room, decent breakfast area. Walking distance (for me) anyway. Even the 3AM shuffle wasn't too bad. Not much right in the immediate vicinity of the hotel; but the CC is a block away. I'd stay there again. I'd probably take it over the CY just for the breakfast
