I got 13000 points with the NetBank offer. The points didn't post for a while, but after I called them, the points posted within a couple of days.

Have you guys kept the NetBank account open for a while, or closed it after a 6 months. Their fee schedule has a fee for closing an account.

BUMP for same question.

Or can you just withdraw ALL the funds by writing a check to yourself?

Thanks.

Easiest way to keep the account open without paying any fees is to schedule a $1 bill payment once a month to you. They mail you a check and you can either cash it or just threw it away. If you don't cash it it will go back to your account in thee months.

I only use my Netbank account to withdraw cash when abroad. They don't charge anything for foreign ATM withdrawals and the exchange rate is actual one.

I did not make myself clear. I mean not to keep it open for 6 months without incurring the $25 fees.

Thanks.

If you clean out your account, how are they going to charge you a cancellation fee?

Netbank So Far So Bad

I opened a NETBANK account for the Marriott points.

The offer I responded to required $1000 in a checking account for one month for 7500 points. $2500 in a money market account for one month for 6500 points. 3 online bill payments in one month for another 1000 points.

My first complaint is Netbank only allowed $3000 for the initial deposit. But to satisfy the promotion you needed $3500 plus whatever you needed to pay for the 3 bill payments.

My second complaint is Even though NETBANK took the funds from my checking account it was not credited to my account for 4 business days. In my opinion Netbank wants to keep the interest during the float times. Real banks can do ACH transfers faster.

My third complaint is it took a couple of days for me to get my external account acitvated to be able to add funds after my initial deposit. And the 4 busniess delay is there MO.

My last and most important complaint is Netbank still hasn't posted my Marriottt points and I have fulfilled the requirements in the offer.

I rate NETBANK :td: :td: :td: :td: .

OK, do today the FDIC seized NetBank. I am looking for another bank that will offer no international ATM surcharges as well as Direct Connect access from Quicken for bill paying and account downloads. Anyone have any other thoughts?

Just for clarification, FDIC did not seize Netbank, it was shut down by Thrift at which point the FDIC stepped in since it was an insured institution. Having said that, the accounts were purchased by ING at the same time (that transaction was approved and completed today) for $10 million so for most customers, it is working more as a sold entity rather than an FDIC bailout. I would check with ING once things calm down to see if they plan to keep the feature you mention as part of the account after transfer.

Good riddance. I signed up for a checking & savings account to get some $70 in buy.com coupons funding $1500 in each. Almost immediately, a slew of ridiculous fees started, all real sneaky and counter intuitive to what was expected at a "normal" bank (like a $5 monthly checking fee in order to earn a ridiculous .2% interest, statement fees, inactivity fees, etc.). I'd fight to get one reversed and next month a different one would appear. Finally I got fed up & wrote myself a check leaving pennies in each one.

BankDirect has no international ATM surcharge and no foreign exchange fee on their regular ATM card. Also, in the US, if another bank charges you for using their ATM, then BankDirect will give you up to $2.50 back, 4 times per statement. I'm told that if you get a Visa Checkcard instead of a regular ATM card, you will pay 1% foreign exchange fee charged by Visa.

I don't use Quicken, but BankDirect offers Quicken WebDirect. I'm guessing that's different from DirectConnect.

I still have BankDirect referrals if anyone wants one.

1k AA miles for being referred, 5k for direct deposit, 2k for bill pay for a year, 1k for opening the account. You can put $500 initial funding on visa/mc as a purchase. Also earn 100 miles per month per $1000 balance.
