Marriott Timeshares and MR points
Call me greedy but who cares, it's all about points and status. If I sign up for one of those TS promotions, do I still get the number of nights to count toward my number of stays and points based on $$$ spent?

Points at time shares
I think you do get the nights and points. You should get a Marriott confirmation when booking you TS presentaion. Then call Marriott rewards and have them add it to your current reservations.
I would also add that using points at time shares for stays is one of the greatest values for membership rewards points. We are going to Aruba in the fall and we have 2 condos. 1 is our timeshare week. 1 is a onebedroom condo w/ kitchen (not a lockoff) at the Surf Club. Total points for 1 bedroom condo for 7 nights: 125,000 points Total points for a standard hotel room for 7 nights: 150,000 points Check it out! |
The last time I took advantage of one of those TS packages from Marriott was a couple of years ago, but I do believe I received points and nights for the stay.
Also, I have to agree with Mr. Vker on the use of points to stay at the Marriott timeshares. We have stayed in many different timeshares all over the US, including 2 of the 3 TSes in Hawaii. And for the points, you just don't get a better deal. I tend to like this deal even better than the hotel/airline points packages. |
Thanks for your replies. I plan on going to Hawaii later on this year and staying at the JW Ko Olina resort and will use my points coz the regular room rate is quite high.
I've never stayed at a timeshare before and did not have a very good impression of them - this was due to lack of knowledge. Assuming I can get a nice room at a resort using the current promos here, http://www.marriottvillas.com/getawa...p?cookies=true, it's an all around good deal for a weekend getaway. Ex: 4 days/3 nights at JW Marriott Desert Ridge for $299. Sounds like a good deal to me. http://www.marriottvillas.com/getawa...2D79F3A0679157 If I'm wrong, please correct me. |
I just completed one of the time share previews and to my surprise, the nights counted counted towards my # of nights stayed. :)

Hard Sell?
Hi,
I read the posts about time share rentals. I woud love to visit Desert Ridge Canyon Villas. Are the 90 min. presentations very hard sell? Do they only give the $299 offers during slow seasons? Anyone who has been thru the time share experience please advise. Thank you, Deb-Indiana Yea! 100 posts !!! |

Debrak, We recently did the 90 min presentation at Desert Ridge and I beleive it depends on who you get. We got a gentlemen by the name of Terry and he was great. We talked about other stuff the whole time and towards the end, he asked "do you think this is something you might be interested in?" We answered no politely and he said "ok" and he didn't even go through the numbers or try to bring in someone else to sell us. What made it even better was that he was still friendly with us and we just talked about other stuff for the next 15 minutes. |
I've gone through a number of the Marriott 90 minute TS sales pitches. At 15K a pop, whenever I have the opportunity I don't pass it up. :)
Compared to a lot of other TS sales pitches, Marriott's are very low key. For most of them, I tell them up-front that I have tons of Marriott points and am doing this only for the points and they will let us go early. But in reality, I kind of like a free tour through their villas to get an idea of someplace I may want to use points to get in the future. :D |

Marriott time shares are, imho, really top notch. Most time shares like Fairfield (not related to Marriott) are stand alone facilites. They are set up like apartment complexes with decent facilites...pool etc. The Marriott condos are superb with jacuzzi tubs in the master bedroom and washers and dryers in unit. (Most time share condos have these, they beat the heck out of standard hotel rooms.) But what makes them unique is that most of their timeshares also have a Marriott hotel onsite. Therefore, you can get room service, nice restaurants etc. Try it on a sales promo or with points. You won't be disappointed. Two words of warning: 1) When you reserve a sales promo, make sure you tell the Marriott Rep you want to stay at the timeshare. On sales promo trips to Aruba, for example, they put people at any Marriott facility on the island. This could be ocean front condo :) or the Renaissance in town :( . This is probably true at other locations as well. You dont want to be stuck in a Fairfield by Marriott. Trust me, I am in a Fairfield right now. Its OK for business but not for vacation. If they won't guarantee tell them nevermind and they will probably come around. 2) If reserving a timeshare either with money or points, if you select a one bedroom, check to see if its a "lockoff." A lockoff is when they split a 2 bedroom unit into a 1 bedroom full condo and a 1 bedroom lockoff. A lockoff is basically a standard hotel room-no kitchen, dining room or washer and dryer. Good luck! |
Thanks for all the quick replies. I am pretty good at saying "NO" and sticking to it...just nice to know the time share deal wouldnt be the pain most expect.
Thanks, Deb-Indiana |
