Take the train to Kowloon - second stop ~ 25 min ride. Can't remember price, like $10-15. At the hong kong end, I know there are complementary shuttles to the hotels, I assume the same is true in Kowloon. In any event, you take the same back to the airport, and depending on the airline, you might be able to check in there (I was able to check into UA in Hong Kong MRT).

Billy

(Edited because I though the ren. hotel was the one over in HKG)

like the previous poster said, take the Airport Express to Kowloon Station (one way ticket is HKD 90, round trip ticket valid for 1 month is HKD 160).

website : http://www.mtr.com.hk/eng/train/ae_ticket.htm

then either take the complimentary shuttle K4 (every 24 minutes), or a taxi if you don't want to wait -- there is never a line for the taxis. the taxi fare from Kowloon Station to the hotel will be around HKD 30-40, plus a HKD 5 charge per luggage.

enjoy !

New World Hotels

When reseaarching info for a New World Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, I noticed on a few websites that it mentioned that the New World chain is owned and operated by Marriott International. Another website said it was part of the Renaissance hotel partnership. The Marriott, or the hotel's website says nothing about this. The Renaissance in Hong Kong has "New World" as part of its name. Does anyone have any info on this?

Renaissance's in Hong Kong

Did a search, but nothing too recent came up. What's the best way to get from HKG to the Harbor View Renaissance?

Also, my mom & sister are planning a trip where they'll have 4 days in HKG - we're able to get a better deal (points for some nights & paid for the other nights) at the Harbor View than at the New World Renaissance. If you had a choice where price wasn't an issue, between these two hotels, which do would you prefer? JW's supposed to be the best, but it's overpriced for their stay. I think my mom & sister plan on doing touristy activities & some shopping. Which hotel would be better? Also, would it be better to pay a little extra to stay at the New World if it reduces overall activity transportation costs (would it reduce the costs?)?

Thanks in advance!

lots of previous posts on this - but the JW is super convenient on top of a metro stop - try priceline for very reasonable rates there. Harbor is a bit out of the way given the other two choices

New World Hotels were/are part of of Renaissance which Marriott purchased back a few years

I am in the New World Hotel now and saw a bunch of Marriott Reps in the lobby this morning. They are definitely owned by Marriott, but that is about where it ends with the customer side. No rewards program or anything. The girl at the front desk had no idea what a Platinum was....yikes.

Any future of having a rewards program with them?

Geez. I feel like this post is a conversation with myself!

Anyway, here is some updated info I got from Marriott. Sorry Socrates, I had sent an email off to Marriott Rewards before you had posted your info!

Thank you for contacting Marriott Rewards Guest Services.

At this time some of the New World Hotels are partners with Marriott
Rewards ( New World Beijing Courtyard, and New World Courtyard Shunde).
Unfortunately, the New World Hotel Saigon is not part of the Marriott
Rewards program.
Please be assured we have forwarded your comments to our Partnerships
team to consider in future contract negotiations. Your comments will be
reviewed for possible enhancements to our program in the future.

If I can further assistance, please let me know.

Sincerely,

XXXX

How well does the JW Marriott treat its platinum guests? Can I expect a harbor view room and club access on booking the cheapest rate?

The Conrad has always been my Hong Kong home, but the rate difference (with use of bonus bucks in pounds) makes a compelling case for the JW on an upcoming stay. At least, I am already familiar with Pacific Place and transport in the area.

The JW has ALWAYS given me access to the longe, and upgrades when available. One time, I was traveling with one other person, and they were oversold, and asked if I'd like a 2 bedroom appartment. It was great execpt for the internet access! Tons of room and they still gave me access to the lounge. They treat you very well regardless of the rate.

One of my top 10 hotels ever visited - and I've been to a bunch!

I was on an award stay last year. At check in I asked if a view room was available. She did some checking on the computer and immediately changed my room. I ended up in a room 2 rooms down from the concierge lounge. Great view of the Victoria Harbour. But be aware that there is another tall building right in front of the Marriott which blocked part of the harbour.

And the concierge lounge has the best food in any Marriott I've stayed.

Jw, Jw, Jw

I was there in August, going back in a few weeks.

I have stayed at all three. The best, in order, are JW,JW,JW.

The only thing better than the breakfast in the lounge is the OUTSTANDING breakfast buffet downstairs. Made to order smoothies, American, Japanese, and Chinese dishes galore, and they will make most anything else if you ask.

Great views of either the mountains or the harbor and the drinks in the lounge are served graciously and with a heavy (and free) pour.

Just one persons opinion, so don't everyone come and crowd me out!

JW Marriott Hong Kong - NICE people

I have just returned from a 4 day trip to Hong Kong with my family. On the way over I must have gotten a little too enthusiastic throwing bags around. On the first evening my back started aching early on, by midnight I was in agony. Couldn't lay down, couldn't stand, couldn't sit. The front desk organised a doctor. He came and gave me some painkillers and muscle relaxants. After a couple more hours of agony I called him back and he organised a visit to a (good) local hospital. The Front Desk at the hotel were well aware of the situation and sent a security officer with my wife and I in a taxi (he picked up the fare which I was NOT billed for). (The taxi ride is a story in itself...it took my mind off my pain for a while, but I wasn't sure whether I was going to end up in hospital because of my back or an RTA!). He made sure everything was ok before he left. I was dealt with by some great hospital staff and by 8am I was beginning to feel human again.

I went back to the hotel and that day received 3 phone calls from various Front Desk/Customer Relations people asking how I was and whether they could do anything for me. I also got a special fruit plate delivered to the room with a kind note from the Front Desk staff wishing me a speedy recovery. When I checked out today, once again I was asked how I was feeling.

Considering that I have no status at Marriott (Silver just expired), was on an award stay and am not a regular at that hotel when I am in Hong Kong on business, I was greatly impressed by their care, concern and compassion. It's these kind of things that allow hotels/airlines to differentiate themselves from their competitors. No need to ask where I will be staying next time I am in Hong Kong.
