edit: 2 CSRs gave me 2 different answers - one says its a one-time credit, the other one said its annual. More confusion.

Wow, that was quick.
Applied Thursday night, the Cat 1-4 Free Stay cert has already been ordered.
I assume it's as simple as booking a regular award online and then taking the paper certificate (which I'm assuming I'll get in a week or so) to the hotel, right? I've got a couple one-night Marriott stays coming up where there are some good Cat 4's to pick from. Stays where I was otherwise going to pay $150-175 for the night. ^

Its pretty easy. Book via marriott's 800 number telling them you are using the cert. When you check in hand them the cert. Can't get easier than that!

Ok....I emailed Marriott Rewards about the 15 night discrepancy and here is what I received back from them.....Apparently they are still looking at it....

I have reviewed the terms and conditions on the promotional page of the Premier Platinum Visa and it says it is 15 nights for every year you have the card. I am having the partner specialist check with Visa about the verbiage listed in the owner manual. It is a new program, so an type error is always possible. I will let you know as soon as possible.

This just doesn't seem to be my week, and I'll be blessed if I can figure out what's going on.
Called over a week ago to convert my card to the Premier. Was told could be done when the annual fee was due. Since it is due this month, said, "fine, let's do it". The answer was "No, not until the fee actually hits your bill. Call back later."
Called back a couple days later. "Can I convert to the new Premier?" "Sure, just fax certain information to such-and-such a number, along with your e-mail address, they'll confirm by e-mail in a day, two at most." Faxed the information. No e-mail.
Called back today. "Can I convert." "Not until 19 March." "Why not?" "Because we're just getting set up for this new card and won't be taking applications until later this month." (Well, I *know* that's wrong.)

Perhaps some of the concern on Chase's end is how to "upgrade" an existing account number vs. just opening a new account.
I applied for a new account. I figured worst case: I'm buying a Cat 4 night for $65. I know I'll use it, so no risk on my end. I wanted the cert, plus the ability to earn the extra 2 points per dollar on stays as soon as possible, so I opted for a new card.
Eventually, I expect that existing cardmembers will receive plenty of promotional materials advertising the new product. Right now, most people don't even know about the new card. Eventually, we'll get slick direct-mail pieces extolling the virtues of paying $65/yr for this product, instead of staying on our $19-30/yr. Marriott Visa. They want people to switch. They will eventually make it easy for us to do so (and, I suspect they'll keep some or all of the sign-up perks in place to convince us to click that link). They just aren't quite there yet.
