I have never had a problem using any BB with a LNF rate. That would be about 80% of my stays. But if it should ever happen that they give me flak on using them I am in agreement with GlennTheBaker I would fight them on it.

MARRIOTT is bad. They cancel my reservations because my price is very cheap. They said they show the wrong price and my booking is too lot. I am a Platinum member, but they also cancelled the contract.

Premium Pounds, Extra Euros, and Bonus Bucks should all be acceptable forms of payment even on an LNF rate. That is provided you meet the other criteria (usually a two-night stay is required). They must be used on a publicly-available rate, which is the same requirement for LNF.

I originally thought Bonus Bucks wouldn't apply to LNF because an approved rate is not publicly available. But if another guest made the same claim, they would also receive a similar rate. It is considered to be payment on the original amount, not the discount (from the hotel's accounting office perspective). Hotels are essentially being punished for not having their rates in line and should accept them with a smile (in a perfect world).

If you're at a property that says otherwise, have them call 800-771-LOOK (5665) from the US or Canada or +1 402-548-3575 from other locations.

here's what I've received from Marriott Bangkok:

Dear xxxxxx,

Warm greetings from Bangkok Marriott Resort & Spa!

Thank you for your valued patronage and bringing to Marriott Customer Care about the coupon issue at the front desk during your last visit to our property.

I have personally looked into all the details of your reservation and conditions of the Bonus Bucks Coupon and would like to inform you that the Bonus Bucks is only applicable for non negotiated rate without any special discount promotion. For your case, since your reservation was made under “Super Savor Program" which is our promotional rate of pays three nights for stay 4 nights, therefore the coupon cannot be used.

xxxxxx, thank you for your understanding and should you need further assistance, please feel free to contact me directly anytime.

Yours sincerely,

xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

what is he talking about, I didn't use a "stay for 4, pay for 3 nights" rate.

here's the answer from the Guest Experience Supervisor, Marriott Customer Care:

....Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, when you changed your rate online you switched it to a discounted rate. The premium pounds coupon can't be used along with a discounted rate. It states on the coupon that it has to be used for a "publically listed" rate. Essentially that means non-discounted. The look no further guarantee has nothing to do with the coupon. The look no further guarantee simply states that the price will be the same no matter if you book it online or call the hotel.....

I have to say that I think it is absolute nonsense to say that a BB/PP coupon suddenly cannot be used just because the LNF guarantee has been invoked. I agree 100% with saschaa that the coupon had absolutely nothing to do with LNF. My definition of a 'discounted rate' would be where you have to be a member of 'The ABC Club' or work for 'XYZ Inc.' in order to get a special rate. If the hotels had their rates loaded properly, then there would never be any LNF claims.

Thanks for the info! I was able to grab this for my stay next month. The hotel seems very nice, especially with the CL open all weekend!

The hotel rate is also pretty good with this offer. $109 is the lowest rate with this offer versus a minimum of $229 without it.

I usually get $100 value from a $100 BB, though I guess of course YMMV.

This is a great deal in a good property. Alas! I missed it as I just returned from Vegas before the deal date began.

Bonus Bucks and Marriott Elite rate

I booked a Silver Elite rate at the Westchester Reaissance for $109 per night. Was wondering if I could also use a bonus buck with this rate?

gardener Sep 21, 2007 3:50 am

Officially, no. It is not a publicly available rate since you have to be a member of MR to book it (and elite to boot). In practice, I would present the cert at check in or at check out and you may get lucky.

I think he's thinking of what people pay for them on eBay? Just a guess...

Nice promo - too bad I'm not in Vegas.

Cheers.

I agree with gardener - with one caveat. The "special" Silver Elite rates often AREN'T (sad, but true!) - I would suggest that you doublecheck your rate - log onto Marriott, but do not sign in. Check the rates - if you can get the same one, it is not special, and your Bonus Buck will definitely be accepted! Also doublecheck the math - sometimes a higher rate WITH a Bonus Buck cert is lower than a special rate WITHOUT one!

In the past, I've never had a problem combining a BB/PP with an elite-only rate (M12 or E0P). But the letter of the rule, Marriott could in theory say the act of becoming an elite causes you to no longer be in the "publicly available" realm, but in practice it would be pretty dirty to punish someone for reaching an elite level in their own program. To date, they've always honored my BB/PP on these rates.

Still, it's rare anymore than M12 or E0P actually gives me any incremental savings over the common publicly available code M11. So to be safe I use the least exclusive rate I can find - just in case... I see M12 working well at MVCI, but most BB/PP type certs don't work at MVCI at all.
